Logic Pro X
Re: Logic Pro X
You're clearly holding it wrong - it just works, remember?

Apple do know that they make an 11" MacBook Air right?
Do you have the 2013 model? How is it running?

Here's what Drummer really needs.

The nuances of percussion are a lot more difficult to program than standard drums.

Logic X = disappointment
(1) logic9 had a nice and relaxing GUI, now Logic looks like a dark batman's toy.
(2) after years of upgrades and helping Apple to solve bugs, now I should pay the same price of newbies? Bullshit.
(3) Old Apple policy: people say "wow, only 200€ for a professional software! And no dongle or serials, too!" Obviously the dongle is called "mac" (1000€ and above).
(4) I don't understand why they bought the italian "Redmatica", since there is no improvemet at all regarding EXS24, sampling, convertions etc.
(5) Flex Pitch useless. Pros use Melodyne (much better and polyphonic).
(6) "smart controls": garageband toys.
(7) no VST (ridiculous Apple's policy).
(8) New "cool" (?) dark GUI, but the old instruments and effects (Es1-Es2-Sculpture-Evp88-Evb3-EXS24-reverbs-delays etc.) are the same as 15 years ago. Nonsense.
(9) "Drummer": a toyish dumbness for lazy non-musicians. Sennheiser put out "drummica" and it is even free.

Re: Logic Pro X
myrnova, pretty much every one of your disappointments are silly.
The Redmatica buyout is probably responsible for Flex Pitch, but that's the only point of yours that makes sense.
Apple should have added more Redmatica features to Logic, of course it's possible this will be a stand alone app.
$199 is cheap, especially considering that I'm looking at $299 to upgrade Live 8 Suite to Live 9 Suite.
Absolutely no reason to re-skin plug ins unless there's a public uproar about them.
I'm of the group of people who hated what Apple was doing to the GUI in Logic 8 and 9, so this is an improvement IMO. Though I am still fond of Logic 5's mostly flat GUI.

That right there is my problem too atm...along with Pro Tools and Cubase upgrades. I just gotta go with one but can't decide!Machinesworking wrote: $199 is cheap, especially considering that I'm looking at $299 to upgrade Live 8 Suite to Live 9 Suite.

So, for example, if I paid for Win7, I shouldn't be paying full price for Win8, because my money from the Win7 purchase helped MS build fund the development of Win8? Your point sounds rather silly.myrnova wrote:after years of upgrades and helping Apple to solve bugs, now I should pay the same price of newbies? Bullshit.

Especially when considering that every other piece of software charges more for the initial purchase, and about the same to upgrade.Komodovaran wrote:So, for example, if I paid for Win7, I shouldn't be paying full price for Win8, because my money from the Win7 purchase helped MS build fund the development of Win8? For me, Live 9 Suite will be $299, and the upgrade to DP8 was $219. $199 for Logic X is the same for everyone, new, old, and like me who still have Logic 8 only.. no punishment for skipping an upgrade cycle like Ableton does. I bought 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, and am not complaining that Logic 9 would cost me $199, not at all.
Re: Logic Pro X
Well, actually if you paid for win7 I guess you don't pay full price Win8, they make you a discount or smth.Komodovaran wrote:So, for example, if I paid for Win7, I shouldn't be paying full price for Win8, because my money from the Win7 purchase helped MS build fund the development of Win8? Re: Logic Pro X
For me 200€ is not at all cheap, considering it is only an Apple app, working only on a mac, with no vst compatibility. It is the right price. I would prefer to spend 500€ for Logic multiplatform (pc and mac), vst support and a larger community.Machinesworking wrote:$199 is cheap, especially considering that I'm looking at $299 to upgrade Live 8 Suite to Live 9 Suite.

You realize none of that is relevant right?myrnova wrote:For me 200€ is not at all cheap, considering it is only an Apple app, working only on a mac, with no vst compatibility. It is the right price. I can't buy Sonar on Mac! Total rip off!
Office doesn't run on an iPad because Microsoft are pushing Slate! bastards!
Cubase doesn't do AU? assholes!

(1) You can buy Sonar and if you "love" the mac so much, just make a windows partition and install it.Machinesworking wrote:You realize none of that is relevant right?myrnova wrote:For me 200€ is not at all cheap, considering it is only an Apple app, working only on a mac, with no vst compatibility. (2) Office doesn't run on an iPad because the iPad is a toy, useful for websurfing, angry birds, email, etc.
(3) Cubase does not support AU because the international standard is VST. "AU" is just an Apple custom version of VST, infact nobody use it, apart mac users. Never heard of software products in "AU" format. "AU" is just for mac. Plugins come out in VST format. Americans did not accept this standard, so invented "AU", "AAX" etc. because... well... because they are americans

Re: Logic Pro X
1. Office not being on iPad doesn't have anything to do with it being a "toy", in fact that toy has a significant impact on education, it's Ballmer being a dumbass. Matter of fact it's available for iphone, so iphone isn't a toy but ipad is?
2. As far as I remember VST was a very welcome addition to the plug-in scene since directx was the only standard. Of course Cubase is going to be partial to VST, they're both made by Steinberg, a german company. The only people that really stuck to AU were professional studios because of the Pro Tools standard. AU has always been a minority and this notion of americans being "anti-vst" is completely delusional.
You are off your nut dude, get your brainpan checked. Jackass.

Re: Logic Pro X
1. Right, spend $150 on Windows so I can use Sonar, makes total sense. You don't get it, you do not set the standards for any company, period. Complaining because something isn't cross platform is stupid. That, was the point.myrnova wrote: (1) You can buy Sonar and if you "love" the mac so much, just make a windows partition and install it.

Otherwise, in the rest of the world "VST" is the standard for plugins.
2. Right, I'll just inform every business I see using iPads instead of cash machines or full computers that the iPad is a toy because an angry italian told me so.
3. The international standard is now AAX, for composers it's AAX, RTAS, VST and AU. Whatever you may think, "pro" studios run Pro Tools, period.
If you're at all curious AU was discussed with all the major DAWs, and Cubase may have supported it if Logic had not been bought by Apple. Emagic the company that made Logic were actually already on board to get rid of VST support, because VST support host wise has always been rough. It's not out of laziness that VST3 is taking forever to get to other DAWs, it's because Steinberg likes it's advantage being the makers of VST. <-- That, was the reason AU was developed in the first place. IMO both AU and VST are flawed in the sense that they aren't open plug in formats, and there are vested interests behind the development that limit them. They both however are stable and work just fine.

AU is an OSX standard, RTAS and AAX are the Pro Tools formats, old and new respectively.shadx312 wrote: 2. No true universal standard exists, but the fact is AAX is going to be in the big recording studios because Pro Tools still offers zero latency hardware that allows headphone monitoring while tracking without a delay, much needed by drummers.
