disable automap and instant mapping for Novation Zero SL
Hello!
My Novation Zero SL (original) jumps to instant mapping all the time. I'm trying to use it as a CC controller without any automatic mapping.
Does anyone know how this is done?
Thanks alot

For my SL25 I just uninstalled automap and set it up like any controller in Live midi tab in preferences (turn on track and Remote). Put the SL in Play mode and you should be able to use pages of assignable controls.

Hey thanks alot!
I never installed the automap.
It just always jumps back to patch 40 which is the automap patch.
I think it's the instant mapping in Ableton, I don't know if it's possible to turn it off.
It's kind of annoying. But I've set the MIDI preferences similar to yours

There are ways to edit the settings on the device itself. A manual is at the Novation site. I'd step you through it, but I'm not at my keyboard.
One of the editable settings is what preset the keyboard defaults to when turned on.
Along with that though, in Live itself, the program in 9 likes to automatically find control surfaces. Especially if there is a blank spot on the Control Surfaces list in MIDI Preferences.
Sadly, the only way to handle that is to select a bunch of fake scripts to use up all the slots. Then it won't automatically set your controller up.

I'd just do something silly like, select Tranzport, on all of them.
If the doesn't work, maybe choose midi in for each one using a midi port that you do not currently use.

Hi hallvardura,
If you don't want to use the Ableton template built into the SL, it is possible to disable this behavior.
In your Ableton > Preferences > MIDI Sync tab. You just need to remove the SL as a control surface in here and leave the MIDI ports enabled in the on/off buttons below.
As long as the SL isn't as a control surface in this section, Ableton will treat it as a standard controller.
I hope this helps.

Hey
Thanks alot. That's awesome.
Yeah I'm using it for live performance, so I have to know exactly what each encoder is going to do!
All the best, Hallvardur

Re: disable automap and instant mapping for Novation Zero SL
Hi,
Ive just bought the SL MKII.
So, should both Automap and Live mappings work properly in Live 9?
I understand you cant have both at the same time, thats fine.
I just want to be able to switch between the two which I understand is possible.
I loaded up DiscoDSP Corona and tried the Automap but nothing would show up unless I first configured the controllers on the Ableton plugin interface(ie not the GUI of the plugin).
Live's native plugins parameters are mapping as expected to the controller.
Or, do you have to manually create mappings for plugins, which seems to defeat the idea of Automap, duh!

Re: disable automap and instant mapping for Novation Zero SL
Hey!
I tried to mess around with the settings in the MIDI tab a little.
If I set too many scripts which i'm not using, ableton stops to recognize both of my controllers.
I'm using Korg Nanokontrol as well.
The SL keeps on jumping to 40, although not as much.
Is there a way to program it to always start up on patch 37?
thanks alot
