Change APC40 "scene select" buttons to act as "momentary"

Post by infinitesinewave » Sun Jul 28, 2013 6:23 am

I'm having a hell of a time finding an answer to this one...

I want to change the "scene select" buttons on my APC40 to act as "momentary" buttons. Right now, I have them assigned to beat repeat "on" and "off" effects but I have to push the button to activate on... and push again to turn it off. I accomplished this using simple MIDI learn. However, I would like to push down on the button and turn "on" the beat repeat... but when I release the button I want it to turn "off(stop)" the beat repeat function.

Does anyone know how to accomplish this? I have Ableton 9 so Max 4 Live comes with it. Is there a device that can do this? How do I change the midi data on my controller to accomplish this?

I found some max 4 live devices that change the "solo" and "track select" buttons to momentary controls... but not the scene select buttons.

You have to disable the standard functionality using max4live then observe the button presses routing them to the beat repeat....

JuanSOlO is writing a guide as I'm just running out of the door... The device you're looking doesn't yet exist...

I don't know if this is quite what you meant, but here's how i set up my scene launch section as a drum pad:
new midi track>create clips>turn quantization off>draw midi note(or cc in envelope)>map clip to button.

Basically, you can just set up a translation channel in live.
