Changing the Push's MIDI channel

Post by 10110101 » Sat Jul 27, 2013 4:21 pm

Im using FXpansion Geist which has 8 pad banks, each assigned to different midi channels 1-8. Setting your controller to midi channel 9 allows access to any pad bank currently in focus. Push by default transmits on midi channel 1 only giving me access to the first bank. Is there any way to set the Push to transmit on a different channel ie. ch9 in this case? Or some setting in the chain rack maybe?

Push has 16 midi channels. Maybe I don't understand your question?

For example I can set my 16 channel midi keyboard to channel 9 when needed. How can this be accomplished with a Push?

I know nothing about Geist. I would assume each of the banks 1 thru 8 can be assigned to a midi channel and an out. (1-2, 3-4 etc.) If so, then create 8 midi channels and group them. Load Geist to the first channel strip. This will be Geist, midi channel 1 and out 1-2. The remainder channel strips place an External Instrument on each one. In the 2nd channel strip in the External Instrument select Geist 2 (Thats the midi channel) and out 3-4. .. and so on..

This works for Maschine, I also used it on Superior Drummer 2.
I hope that helps.

You only need to create 1 extra channel with an external instrument. Set it to Geist channel 9. Geist on channel 9 will play whichever of the 8 engines is currently select. Or you can use Channel 10 and it plays all 8 engines across the entire midi keyboard.

I managed to get this to work by mapping each of the pads in the chain to an external instrument set to Geist "slot" 9. Works great now. Both lyovino & deva THANKS for the help.

I was reading this topic, but i don't know how and where can i program the geist pads into push pads. I know the geist use midi ch9 to focus all banks (engines). Is anyone can help me how can i make preset in Push to Geist pads? I think in User mode...but how...it needs a software editor?

For geist I created a drum rack and assigned 16 of the slots to the geist pads. I started at C1 and set Midi to geist slot 9 sub 1 for pad 1, sub 2 for 2, 3 for 3 ect. works great.

just create a drum rack with geist in the first durm pad on the bottom C2 then beginning at C1 start dropping in "external instruments" from the instruments section and enter all the appropriate settings (Midi to geist, geist slot 9, then sub 1 for pad 1, sub 2 for 2, 3 for 3 ect.) Save it and you'll be able to browse to and open geist from push, no user mode required.

Thank for your help! But let me give you an other way to use geist-push combo.
If you have live 9.1 or higher plus the latest firmware, maybe you know you can use the melody sequencer.
You can use the the 16 pads at the bottom 2 lines. 1st line: geist pads 1-8. 2nd line: pads 8-12. U can use the melody sequencer instead of geist sequencer to record it live, use the nudge and stuff like that. For me the remix mode is missing here, but im doin it in the ableton midi clip.

So set it up:
1.Load Geist to Ableton.
2.Set the Push to Key C, Chromatic mode.
3.Click on the Note mode. Then hold the shift to select scale layout "Seq"1
Now you can use the 16 pads nicely.

...and don't forget in to set c1 to the first line in melody seq mode. You can do it with the Push pitch shift pad. The first line will be pad 1. till the 7th line which is the 7th pad. After that you have to use the pad pitch again to set it G1. this will be the pad 8. till pad 14.
