Latency and Mac "Aggregate Device" Settings Tip

Post by ebencarlson » Tue Aug 02, 2005 9:42 pm

Hi my Able brothers and sisters. I just got done setting up my latency in Live 5 and was ROFC because it was 119ms. I switched my input settings from Mac Aggregate Device to Tascam FW-1884 and it is now a highly respectable 5ms. I'm not using my powerbook's 1/8" ins, I just wanted to be cool with 20 tracks, when the good lord knows I should be happy with 18 (although i rarely use above a couple at a time).

Anyway, jus thought I'd pass along the info. I'd been wondering why everything was lagging. I guess it had to go look someplace else everytime it did anything. Maybe this'll solve some of my CPU issues as well.

Keep it warm..

That is a lot of cpu for such a limited number of additional ins... I wonder if the argregate devices need some polishing on some end.

I have disabled the agregate device myself, as my drum kit is still in storage, and I wanted to avoid some nasty cpu spikes I was getting.

I was up to about 34 tracks (two interfaces and a set of 16 internally from soundflower) and I would occaisionally see a jump from 10-30% CPU. I was, however also using the mackie control emulation (which you also have on your tascam) and I think that eats up a lot of cpu.

I find that when I move the automatic faders on the fw1884 that I see 1-2% cpu gain, but when I move the automatic faders via Live, I see a gain of 4-10% sometimes!

I wonder also if this is an OSX situation.
