You can have up to 16 Midi Out / One per Sound. But beware that Live routes all midi (internal) to Ch. 1 !

To use Maschine´s sequencer with Drum Rack do the following.

Maschine

- Open Maschine
- Choose a sound slot
- Choose the first sound module (None / Sampler / Input / Midi Out )
- Choose "Midi Out"
- Change Pad-Mode to Keyboard - Mode ( Shift + Pad Mode )
- Change "Base Key" to C1 (Maschine Controller)

Live

- Open a Drum Rack

Set IO
Midi From
1-Maschine
Maschine

-> Set Monitor IN / Rec On

Now you can play your Drum Rack from the Maschine sequencer.

Have fun!

Sounds to midi always worked for me, one instance of maschine and an additional midi track for each group I'm using

Lots of tips, I'll try to find time to detail early in august.
Basically I use Maschine as a controller. I use a mix between a big m4l patch, mackie control emulation for the parameters name feedback on the LCD screens, and a midi remote script.
2 main templates, one for arrangement view, one for session view with synchronized but unquantized looping in clip slots with playable instruments (and drum racks) on the pads, automations, mixing...
Most of the shortcuts are on the Maschine buttons, and I also have custom made shortcuts thanks to m4l. I still use my keyboard, but really not that much.
I'll try to first make one short video for each template, I'm sure some of you will find this interesting. Then I could detail the system in a blog post or something like that.

Sorry if I was unclear; of course you can use Maschine as a pad controller in live.

The issue I was raising is that you can't play MIDI clips from Maschine directly into Live (although you can drag and drop them to tracks). I don't think, anyway.

So you can't key live drum racks directly from a midi clip in Maschine, AFIK...

This is how it works:
On Maschine you set either a pad to send to a specific midi channel, or a group to batch send to a midi channel. You choose 1-16.
Then you create a midi channel in Live. You place a drum rack or instrument inside of it.
That midi channel, you change the routing of it so that it receives its midi from the Maschine channel.
The next dropdown lets you choose midi from Maschine 1-16, corresponding with Maschine's midi outputs.

Anything you record as a clip inside the Maschine vst on those channels, will now send out to the Ableton Live channels. (I forget if you can also use External Instrument for this).

Ok, I'll try it again. Maybe I did something wrong the last 15 times I tried it.... :)

I guess this is Maschine as a VST; Maybe I was trying to do it from standalone....

I know that is the way it is supposed to work if Maschine provided virtual outputs. I just tried it again, and no luck. Have you actually done this?

Ah crap. I hate when I am wrong. I did a few tests. The advice from Fugazi does work.

I'm not sure if it has to do with any of their updated midi routing from the old versions.

But I'm on the case!

Edit:
I did more tinkering. So far, I have been able to use the software standalone. Sending midi out through the hardware.

Then receiving the midi in my sound card via a cable. And in Live, setting the soundcard to receive midi (since the soundcard is now Maschine's midi), and clock sync.

When I do that, I can get the sequencing abilities but there is a terrible sequencing delay, and having both programs opened separately is pointless.

I believe NI's support page recommend an IAC driver for similar capabilities. My next test is to go back into vst mode.

That doesn't work for me either. I'm pretty sure Maschine doesn't have virtual MIDI outputs; it is one of the most requested features for VER 2.0 on the Maschine forum..

Okay. So after some more tinkering. I've concluded that as a vst, it is restricted to one midi channel.

I opened it standalone, and had Live open also. I deselected my keyboard on Live, but chose it as the Input on Maschine.

Also VERY important of you haven't already done so, in MIDI Output settings, be SURE that Machine Controller Out is chosen (or any suitable midi port you intend to send out through).

I plugged Maschine's midi out cable into my soundcard IN.

I chose a pad on group A. Shift+browse lets you choose pad settings, I chose MIDI Out. Chose a preferred channel.

I turned sound off on this instance of Maschine as it was mostly only to test its functionality as an Instrument selection device.

In Live I loaded up a piano, chose my audio interface as midi input, and the appropriate channel. Now I could play it from Maschine.

Now I can't play sounds In Maschine though...... Only midi out.

Anyway. I think we've burned this topic out. And I agree with you that they should open up multi-channel midi out in vst. Would be very functional! (As for my personal request, I'd like the ability to hit 'record' on Maschine from any midi device or even qwerty. And the ability to change Patterns [not only scenes] with Notes or PgrmChng)

I tried this with a UM-1 Midi to usb converter, and it doesn't work. Maybe a hardware midi interface will, though..... Not worth the effort at present, though. I'll just drag and drop to Ableton for now...

That is, I give up.....

It's not restricted to one midi channel, after you select sounds to midi for the first group, next in group B go again to sounds to midi and change the midi channel to ch 2, then in live add a 2nd midi ch and in the last drop down menu send it to midi ch 2 in maschine and go ahead and record your sequence. You can continue to do this with the next channel and so forth. In maschines sounds to midi prefers you need to keep changing the midi channel for each group and keep sounds to midi selected . You can play back all of your midi tracks and listen while recording the next one.. This is using maschine as a vst, I don't know about other ways but it has been working this way for some time.

And to clarify I'm not recording any midi in maschine, only in live directly.

The problem we are referring to is midi coming Out of Maschine as vst only being available on 1 midi channel. Which is a damn shame.

Oh I see, yeah in some ways maschine is the most underdeveloped groove box out there, it's kind of weird in that way.
