AKAI stops playing notes

Post by woodswalker » Tue Aug 06, 2013 12:08 pm

I have an AKAI mini which I use with Ableton and a SLMKI midi controller. It has been working well when I use it to control 2 instruments in a rack. The instruments I load are usually Absynth. The AKAI knobs are used for volume control & a few FX. One instrument for each row of 4 knobs. The routing is usually Channel 4 to avoid MIDI conflicts. Well it has worked fine except for one problem:

The problem is that halfway through a set, the AKAI mysteriously stops receiving notes! Or I should say, MIDI signals are still being sent, but no sound comes out. Or only one of the instruments will play.

Is there some reason why my sound would stop? Does Ableton just get confused? It can't handle too many instruments at once?

Akai mini doesnt Receive data, it sends midi data, it is a controler.

maybe you should have said it: "akai mini still sends midi to ableton live but no sounds comes out anymore"

If I understand your saying, after some point in your project, you can play notes with the akaimini, you can see live is receiving midi, but no sounds.

The basic maybe: record arm button has turned OFF

"akai mini still sends midi to ableton live but no sounds comes out anymore"

YEP, that's what I mean to say! (I have difficulty expressing MIDI language. I have only been doing this a few years...)

So, since I haven't turned the ARM button off, and it still shows up as being ARMED in Ableton, how does the track become 'un-armed'?

Since I usually have about 10 Ableton tracks, and 4 devices (SLMK controller, Ultranova Synth, Launchpad and Akai), all playing thru a Tascam interface, does some kind of traffic jam occur and knock out the smallest & cheapest device (the AKAI mini)?
