Do the tutorials. Take your time with each one. Master a lesson with your own sounds then move on to the next lesson. You don't have to do all the lessons in one sitting.

I learned the most from reading the manual and Ableton Live Power.

Focus on SessionView, Warping, and Drum Racks. Then focus on what you want in your basic template.

For making beats, a template with good key mappings is critical. The template can be as simple or complex as you make it.

I find that just mapping the metronome and Session Record alone boosts my productivity 100 fold.

MacAbleton.com is also a good site. It is more geared for Mac computers but most of the principles applies to PCs as well.

Another thing is coming up with a production gameplan. This is tricky for many users in Ableton because it has both Session and Arrangeview. You will need both and will need to know when to go to which. Some people though do everything in arrange but IMO it kind of defeats the great parts of Live but to each is own.

Initially Session is good for writing and getting a basic song structure and any parts that has a pattern. Arrange is better for fine tuning, transitions, and automation, and non pattern based tracks.

Key commands is also critical. Learn all of Abletons key commands. That will make you faster and more productive.

I just want the emphasize the lessons part. They're really easy to follow through since you can practice the lession in question when you're learning it. By the end of them you will be a changed person. :)
