Live keeps crashes when in midi editor

Post by R-DUB » Fri Aug 16, 2013 4:18 am

Have only been using live for 3 weeks, but for some reason the program crashes when I go from the midi editor back to a track. Doesn't matter how many tracks, 1, 3, or 20. I'm running the newest version of live with the newest firmware in push with an elitebook i7 2.7 with 4gb ram. I'll be running my MacBook soon, am getting a new ssd and a few other mods installed, but the constant crashes are getting annoying, I'll post some screen shots soon. Also, am not running any 3rd party vst's just the suite sounds, and very little CPU load if any, really, it makes no sense to me, just freezes and post a failure window and closes. Has crashed a few times when switching sounds on a track from push as well.

Hi,

Did you send your crashes to Ableton? I suggest you do that (I think the 2 email addresses to use are [email protected] and [email protected]).

So you have a Push, I don't have one so I can't really speak to that. I work in Session View mainly. I create a new clip, enter some notes, play it, move stuff around/add to it, play it and have not had any crashes (this is with Live or 3rd party plugins). Anywhere from 1-4 tracks for me initially. And what do you mean specifically by going from editor back to the track? Are you saying you enter a bunch of notes in the piano roll then click play for the clip and it crashes? I'm on windows 7 home premium 64, 4GB core2Duo 3.0 Ghz system (self built some time ago).

I'm going from the midi note editor, all I do is quantize and adjust velocities. It crashed last nigh and all I had were drum samples. Its very strange

So you are using Impulse or Drum Racks or other plugin for your drum samples? Can you post more information as it may help others help you. From what you mentioned is sounds like you are running a) windows 7 home premium 64 on an HP Elitebook notebook with 4GB memory. Also assuming you are running 32 bit or are you running 64 bit? All these details can help. May I also suggest you put your set up in your signature so it's shown in your posts? That is a good thing to do as it helps with what hardware/software you are running other than Live (include version of it as well). I've used Impulse with just snare samples with no issues in a 1-2 bar measure for arranging the patterns.

This happens to me too, running Ableton Live 9 on a 2010 iMac OSX 10.10.5.

I have no problems running anything else on my computer and Ableton functions perfectly in every other department.

The MIDI editor doesn't crash Ableton and make it close, but it completely locks up. My workaround is to hit: ALT+CMD+ESC to Force Quit Ableton, this brings up the Force Quit menu, but doesn't actually close the app. Weirdly, just opening the Force Quit menu re-jigs Ableton back into life (every time), like I'm zapping it with a defibrillator!
