Lenovo Thinkpad t430 vs ideapad y410p

Post by scrTchs » Sat Aug 17, 2013 3:27 am

Is a lenovo thinkpad t430 or a ideapad y410p good enough to run ableton smoothly?
If anyone has either of these, how is it, was it worth the price, and how's the build on the ideapad?

Any other laptop recommendations are welcome but I'm staying with pc's.
Any info greatly appreciated! :o

doesn't matter what kind of pc/laptop/whatever u have got, the solution will be (especially if u travel lot) the Universal Audio UAD-2 Satellite Quad (at least) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5J58CfeTRjo

but because I want to be on topic :) I've bought ThinkPad W530 the final price was around 1800$

http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/th ... #customize

I've choose the following upgrades:

Intel Core i7-3740QM Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.70 GHz)
16 GB PC3-12800 DDR3 (4 DIMM)
256GB Solid State Drive, OPAL SATA3

its a quite decent laptop the only drawback is the missing num keys (but I use it only for music making so its not a big issue for me)

IMO don't buy laptop with CPU weaker than my one(i7-3740QM) u can compare them using the following benchmark: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

Thanks for the reply, I had my eyes on the w530 but it's $200 more. Maybe I'll go with that.

What about the ideapad y410p, has anyone bought this laptop. It has a i7 4700 qm processor, the only drawback is a 1tb hdd that's 5400 rpm.

Thinkpad line is definately better than Ideapad, ive owned both. Ideapads are a lesser quality consumer model. The extra money for the w530 is also worth it, best machine ive ever owned :)

FWIW I have a Thinkpad W520 and it is S O L I D (i7 8gb RAM, 2Gb video RAM), with RME FF400. Previous poster was correct, Ideapads are more flimsy.
