Is it possible to remap a sustain pedal to turn on and off the global record button in ableton when connected through Push?
I have never used a sustain pedal but I use another midi pad "Kontroller" to do this function right now, but would rather have a real pedal down there.
looking at some cheapy's on amazon right now.

The issue you're facing is that the 'pedal on/off' midi message is one of the holy please-don't-touch messages, like the pitch bend codes. While most controllers and DAWs can map anything to anything, the pedal controller is usually hardwired into what it sends, and AFAIK ableton won't touch it either. I'm assuming you've already tried to map it to no avail.
You can use a midi translator such as Bome's (costs you a bit of money though, but I think there's a free alternative) that does exactly what it sounds like - takes one message and outputs another instead.
There may or may not be devices out there that are made for guitarists to plug in switching controls (which operate the same way as your sustain pedal) that send MIDI messages, but I'm not sure.
