I guess I was a little too hasty with assumptions on this. I thought parental control would involve a password, but no. (entering passwords with a remote control is SHIT :x ) You just go to the parental control screen, scroll through the apps, and choose show or hide. You can also rearrange the apps like you can on iOS. You can’t change the top row though.

 that's pretty funny how you think the Macbook Air is innovative.
yer so sillie!
I submit the chronological order into evidence.

1. netbooks.
2. Macbook Air
3. Buh bye netbooks. Hello ultrabooks.

FACT.

:x
 lets make it almost annoyingly smaller and call that... "innovative"

i suppose that makes a Jr. Bacon Cheese Burger the height of fast food innovation too right? :P

Annoyingly smaller? Netbooks are even smaller and are way underpowered.

Do you really think that if it wasn’t for the introduction and success of the Air that competitors would have just come up with the ultrabook anyway? Really?

They even had the balls to charge the same premium price tag because Apple proved people will pay it. Price difference has often been the deciding factor for people who aren’t married to the OS.

I’m not arguing the level of innovation the Air was. I’m arguing that it forced competitors to go “Oh! We need one too!”

you brought netbooks into this...

Macbook Air = meh... just another small laptop = not innovative at. all.

name one thing it does (excluding fit in your waistband and run OS X) that every other similarly spec'd laptop can't do...

Steve Ballmer could have come up with that design ffs :x

Damnit.

One more time with feeling/caps. THE AIR FORCED THE INDUSTRY TO QUIT MAKING NETBOOKS AND START MAKING ULTRABOOKS.

Don’t make me come back and bold that. :x

FFS.

so you're telling me that if Apple introduces a 21" Macbook Pro and later HP releases a Megabook that all of this is *innovative* industry manipulation?

8) story bra!

i think the market determined what happened to the netbook, not Apple. people decided that it was too fucking annoying trying to work with a laptop that goddam small... the only thing innovative about the Macbook Air at that point was that it happens to be at the cusp between frustratingly too small and tolerable under certain conditions - such as A. on stage or B. too poor to afford a bigger Apple computer.

iTouch = innovative.

Alright let’s take netbooks out of the discussion because it’s just convoluting things. Ultrabooks wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for the Air. There’s no way the PC industry would have just said “Hey, let’s bring a thin and lightweight but really expensive laptop to market” on their own.

:?

 right.

so anyway... today i was asked to help a Physician's Assistant, a long time iPhone user, with company email on her new phone since her last one bricked. i got up there she handed me a Samsung Galaxy 4.

very surprised at this i said... "whoa, what made you decide to change teams?". her response; "the iPhone took too many steps to do some things. this phone is so much smoother. i feel like the iPhone is just a good for a starter smart phone for old people."

true. story. i can't make shit like that up... Samsung missed out on a commercial. :x

I believe this.

But I would like to know exactly what it is she is talking about. Asking an Android user to get into specifics is like asking myrnova to praise the US.

And hopefully iOS 7 will solve some of the common “too many steps” complaints.

she's been an android user for about a week and a half... and she's happier than when she was an iPhone user two weeks ago... and for the last 3 years, that i know of.

i can tell you some of it though... too many steps to do simple shit on an iPhone.
*delete multiple messages on iPhone:
click edit
select messages
click delete

*delete multiple messages on Android:
select messages
click delete

shit like that is all over the OS.

then there's iTunes. :x

you can drag and drop as many songs as your phone will hold into the music folder without launching a single program on the computer you are connecting the device to. same with ring tones..

ring tones purchased in iTunes aren't even backed up if you don't sync your phone.
example... i had a fairly recent backup of my iPhone, then i purchased ring tones ... the phone got stolen. so did the ringtones. no option to re-download. :x

the only thing just better about the iPhone is the voicemail. bar none, hands down.

everything else is old hat and losing ground. if iOS7 doesn't have some step savers, that people can figure out without having to read an article by a third party, then they're stagnant at Apple.

don't get me wrong... i really really like my iPhone, but there are some better ways to do things on an Android device that the iPhone simply doesn't have. less steps typically equals better. it just does.

the Apple hardware is nice... no doubt, but people constantly want a better experience that they like not just a solid box with the same old experience. changing the icons and shit won't cut it anymore. consumers are over that shit. you can get a pretty OS on a $49.99 phone.

New iPhones being announced today. Will they be packed with enough mostly useless gimmicks to keep up with the competition? Doubtful. :x

The fact that they even consider a budget version for any of their products is a big dump on Jobs corpse imo.

And anyone with self-esteem that can't afford an iphone isn't going to embarass themselves with a wal-mart version, they'll go with a galaxy like any other normal person. It's a lose-lose situation.

Agree but I think most of the point of a budget iPhone is for the Chinese market and they love cheap plastic shit over there. Would probably also be a good purchase for parents buying their kids phones who tend to break or lose them.

A step backwards but let’s not forget the plastic MacBooks.

Also this will be the first Apple keynote in a long time that I will not be monitoring live. I’ll read about it all after the fact. :x
