Advice for a newcomer?

Hello! Newcomer to the world of Live here. I'd like some advice if you have a minute.

So, my "studio" is mostly hardware based. I love the physical feel you get with an instrument at your fingertips. I currently use FL Studio (Fruity Edition) for MIDI sequencing and such, so i can just jam out and quickly write down ideas if I get inspired.

But recently I've been seduced by the idea around Push. The fact that it is so well integrated with Live means that you can play it as an instrument, sequence external gear, and use it as a DAW all from the device, with the occasional glance at your PC. It seems like the perfect machine for me, seeing as I do not like to get too involved with a laptop while music...ing.

The one problem I seem to have right now is my budget. The reason why I chose FL over Live so long ago was what I got for the money. Plenty of plugins, effects, audio tracks, so on and so forth. From what I understand, the Ableton equivalent to FL's "Fruity Edition" is "Live Intro". Same price and all.

What functionality do I lose in the switch to Live Intro, and how does that effect the integration with Push? Will I be happy with what's included with Live Intro, or is it too little to work with? I hope that what's bundled with Intro gives me enough diversity to use with Push as an instrument.


TL;DR: Does using Push with Live Intro greatly limit your ability to play it as an instrument?

No, you can use the included content or just get some free vst's or buy some. There are many for cheap.

if you have too much at your disposal and buy everything in sight and never learn any of it, you lose

keep it simple then expand when you've conquered the first hill

That's very true, sowhoso. For me, what I get with Intro is make-or-break deal for purchasing Push.
I am just concerned that I will grow bored with the sounds/instruments/effects included in Intro if there is not many to work with.


I won't have the cash to upgrade to Live Standard for quite some time, so I hope this is not the case.
