Hi 80, I love version 2 but I can't understand why KP doesn't support video out over VGA or composite.8O wrote:Hi folks,
Anyone used KP with external screen/projector mirroring e.g. using AppleTV and AirPlay successfully?
We looked at supporting VGA mirroring a long while back (back pre-iPad2), but decided not to do it, so wondering what set-ups work well with newer iPads/iOS...?
Appreciate any feedback, cheers...
Nave, Yamaha MMS, Touchable and Animoog to name a few I tried, all mirror their output over VGA. I haven't tried them with composite because that seems to be rarer and just used by video and vj tools.
But I see KP as a vj tool as much as a controller. One of the great poweres of KP would be to bring the audience a little bit further inside what an electronic performer is doing and breaking down the barrier of the laptop by allowing them to connect the graphics with the sound and realising the person performing is manipulating the graphics.
A set I had planned was a multichannel midi and audio affair with KP controlling 8 channels of macros with it's eight banks, each with a different graphic combo. I wanted to run this into the Korg Kaos entrancer visual effects box which was in turn controlled by midi CC's running from the live set. I was then going to split this between a back projection and a flat screen in front of my set up. I was also going to have my set play Nave on my ipad and switch to its wavetable display for sections.
I have a composite out cable that will route knaves audio back to my set and will plug right into the Kaoss Entrancer visual effects box ( for which I have the midi CC clips to control this designed and tested) It was all going fine until I remembered something about KP not working over the composite cable. Fine I thought I have a VGA to composite adapter, there will be loss of quality but the concept was still alive. Now from this thread and another I have discovered VGA output was not implemented! well why not? It doesn't make sense to me. So to do what I had planned I'll have to get another laptop and buy ipad mirroring software so KP's graphics will appear on it's screen and send that to the visual equipment (also requiring the VGA to composite adaptor) but that means a three way wifi communication handling midi one way and mirroring another, doesn't sound too stable or hassle free to me so I'm forced to scrap the whole visual concept.
All the while I have my ipad composite out cable which, if implemented would allow the whole thing to work like a dream with no intermediaries that cause instability and quality loss.
So why are these standard visual peripherals not supported? Mirroring is a very poor work around, I'd rather point a video camera at the ipad but I've tried that and my hands block too much of the view.
