Having to relaunch live to get launchpad s to work
Having to relaunch live to get launchpad s to work
When I launch live (regardless of version) launchpad starts up and freezes. If I launch a different project or new session, then it's fine. Anyone else?
I'm guessing it's on novations end since it's all versions of live? (8.4, 9.05 beta and full 9.05)

Re: Having to relaunch live to get launchpad s to work
I have to chime in on this also.
Sometimes at startup, the yellow Launchpad guide in Live (9.0.5) will appear, flicker, and just not come up at all.
Opening a project or restarting Live sometimes works, but fails 95% of the time.
Using the LPS also, driver 2.5
*EDIT* Also, in the MIDI I/O, I have the Control Surface as Launchpad, but in the I/O boxes it reads "2-Launchpad S". Turning Track or Remote on/off makes the yellow guide box appear sometimes, but that shouldn't happen?

Re: Having to relaunch live to get launchpad s to work
I have same problem. Win 7 x64 Qosmio F750. Only on live 9 though all versions.
8 works great.
Tried EVERYTHING to fix this and failed
Ableton support tried to help me out heaps and were lovely but in the end I just gave up. I even reformatted my machine and went from scratch (what a waste of time that was!)
All I can think is that mine is due to a hardware conflict between either Minibrute and LP or MOTU Microbook & LP.
If anyone figures this out please post. I'm intruiged.

Re: Having to relaunch live to get launchpad s to work
Novation was no help. I too reported it to the abes and believe that since it works fine with 8, it's a bug in live 9.
Re: Having to relaunch live to get launchpad s to work
I have a similar issue. I don't restart though. I go to prefs, select None for control surface, and then reselect it.
Re: Having to relaunch live to get launchpad s to work
I think I worded this incorrectly, When live starts (live 9) it lights up, but I can't select ANYTHING. There are two options (other than they one you mentioned)yur2die4 wrote:I have a similar issue. I don't restart though. I go to prefs, select None for control surface, and then reselect it.
Start another project after my first (so in other words, the original template won't work) or unplug and replug. Then it works fine.
Novation says my settings are correct, so it's not that. Once I get it to work, it works fine.
It might have been somewhat different when I first made this post, but I've futzed around, updated to automap 4.7 (and reinstalled the driver) and it's tolerable. I just HAVE to reload a project/new set.
PITA, doeable, but PITA.
Again, 8 works fine
Re: Having to relaunch live to get launchpad s to work
I opened a ticket with Novation, we'll see if they get back.
But at this point it seems its a Live9 bug. Like the control surface boot priority gets scrambled when loading the template set.
1. Open Live9.
-Guide box flickers/turns off, LPS unresponsive.
2. File->New Live Set [or Ctrl+N]->LPS works.
BTW, I fixed the "2-Launchpad S" issue pretty quickly. DON'T install the driver. It's pretty much useless(?) since LPS is class-compliant.

Re: Having to relaunch live to get launchpad s to work
I actually had to install the drivers. For mac it's truly CC, but for windows there is an a issue (it says in the manual what it is)
Re: Having to relaunch live to get launchpad s to work
Really? Works fine without them here; Windows7 x64.eyeknow wrote:I actually had to install the drivers. For mac it's truly CC, but for windows there is an a issue (it says in the manual what it is)
I believe you need the drivers if you intend to operate multiple LPs or multiple programs at a time.
Re: Having to relaunch live to get launchpad s to work
I re-responded to the original support ticket with hopefully more info and a screenshot of my preferences. I also mentioned that it works in live 8. Hopefully, if enough people report their issues they can figure it out and and we can get a fix someday.

Re: Having to relaunch live to get launchpad s to work
I just unplug and plug it back in again
Re: Having to relaunch live to get launchpad s to work
Same issue here.
I have already contacted ableton and I'm waiting for a response.
It's not a big problem but it is very annoying, hope this can be solved.

Re: Having to relaunch live to get launchpad s to work
But that isn't how it's supposed to work and live 8 doesn't have this issuecreepjoint wrote:I just unplug and plug it back in again
Yeah, for certain though I can do that but usually my template opening is a blank BS/dummy slate and I just open my "good template" and from then on, it's fine.
Needs to be fixed.
Re: Having to relaunch live to get launchpad s to work
Glad you contacted support. OBVIOUSLY it's several of us with the issue, they more people that squack, that faster it will be fixed. CLEARLY at this point it's not a novation issue.snack666 wrote:Same issue here.

Re: Having to relaunch live to get launchpad s to work
Hey all.
Opened email tickets with both Novation and Ableton this week.
Novation: all they make sure is that your LPS is sending MIDI data via software like MIDI-OX. They said it is not a hardware fault, but software.
Ableton: thus far they have it narrowed down to something to do with Windows user profile scheme: 1. unplug ALL peripherals (except mouse/keyboard) 2. create a test Windows profile with admin-rights 3. reboot 4. connect ONLY the LPS 5. open Live...
It connects to Live no problem! Reopened Live multiple times to be sure.
Still awaiting a response from the rep during business days/hours. Has to be something in the AppData or Documents folder...
I'm afraid to delete/change anything as when I looked through the folders (AppData in particular) they seem to hold the license info.
