I need more to controll my ableton DAW

Post by swarlied » Wed Sep 18, 2013 12:48 pm

Hello,
an important part is workflow. Flow more, programm less.

Therefore I want to setup my ableton without the need of using the mouse as much as possible. So I need external control.

I am not interested in a control-solution which focuces on playing notes our launching clips/scenes. I have an APC20 and the Push seems to go into the same direction, which is not what I want. I am especially interested in control of mixing-edits without mouse.

With a midi-controller I can only control fixed targets of midi mapping. When I have 4 source-controllers and a channel with 4 parameters I can only set it to them and stay fixed. If I have another 8 channels with the same settings. I would need to have bring a midi-controller with additional 4x8 knobs to enable myself for FAST accessability. I dont want to remap all the time.

So what is the solution?

It would be great to have a controller, which is able to switch the mapping depending on what channel I have selected. If i select channel 1 - I only change channel 1 parameters. If I select channel 2 the midi-mapping will switch to channel-2-parameters only.

Is this somehow possible? Do you know any hardware-devices, which enables me this kind of workflow?+

Thank you!

Of course it is possible.
First thing is to search informations about "instant mapping" or the "blue hand".
Then if you need more there's the remote scripts and m4l.

thank you! that makes me a lot of hope! It looks easy with the blue hand :-)

But my APC20 does not let show up any hand (Version 9.0.6) Is it not supported or did I made something wrong?

Is remote switched on in the midi preferences for that control surface?

I don't have a APC20, but afaik it doesn't support automapping, I think you can only midi map device parameters to the faders in the user modes. But faders aren't well suited for that task anyway, because after a switch you often have to "grab" the current value first. Endless dials like the APC40 has are much better for instant mapping. Here's how it works with the APC40: https://www.ableton.com/en/manual/using ... ce-control
Live 9.5 (64bit), Max 7.0.6, Windows 10, Push 2, Korg electribe2, Bass Station II, Launch Control XL, Faderfox DJ3

All you need is the STC remode script with kMidi described in this thread and a 8 knob controller like the Nocturn and your set to go.

I implemented it just recently and it changed my work flow totally.
