In fact it works both ways, if you press a little bit harder any pad on the active loop section it locks to that part. The loop selector pads even changes color sligthly.

The same can be done with the melodic step sequencer.

Yes, it be nice. I spent hours yesterday with the note mode step sequencer. Nicely designed.

I deliberately did not use the manual, and just saw whether I could work out how it works by poking around and trying what seems intuitive. They've made it really easy to use.

My only request is a 'note audition' function so that you can press shift and actually hear the note you are adding independently of when it is triggered.

I'm sure it's all been discussed...shoulda been in 9.01 or whatever.

I'd love to download 9.1 but i just can't be bothered to be a beta tester (again).

I like automatic updates. :D
ctrl + left/right = select transient

ctrl + shift + left/right = select between transients

ctrl + space = play selection

Having two windows raises a whole new range of issues. For example, it immediately means that there are people who want to be able to focus on two different tracks in the two different windows. But if Abes implement that, then it means some of my favourite fnctionalities (like Selected Track Control) go out the window.

Two more years and we will have VST 3.

Dual screen support will not change anything we are used to it just offers another way of doing it.

what we want is a sync displays button so you can have the best of both worlds..having said that ableton are renowned for not allowing options to suit multiple users needs

And with good reason. Creating options to suit every tiny little user preference would lead to a huge, sprawling and unmanageable program. One of the things that is fabulous about Live has all along been the focused design. Someone said somewhere on this forum the other day that the essence of good project design is 'intelligently ignoring your user base'. I take that to mean that you need to be careful when you listen to your users, and implement those changes and innovations that are aligned with your overall vision.

I think there's always been a lot of pressure on Live, for instance, to become a kind of all purpose DAW, serving the needs of studio production as much as those of creation and live performance. I think Ableton have resisted that pressure, and I for one am happy. I remember what a nightmare it was, for instance, working with Cubase which, back in the early 2000s at any right was a huge, klunky, unfocused wodge of feature creep.

true to a degree.. however i think live is at a stage where it's not quite sure what it wants to be.. it's lost focus as performance software and trying hard to be a fledged DAW while trying to keep reminence of the performance aspect. if you want to cross over into that DAW world you need to have options. if you want to leave it pure and focussed stick to what it is good at and thats live performance at which it excells at....

and finn it may suit your needs but it doesn't suit my needs where do you go from there? options allow people to use the software the way they like...

if you like they way it works as is, dont change the options pretty simple hey.

cubase is options city yeah i agree it's my main DAW .. but having the options allows me to use the features i use most in my way and i can basically ignore the feature i dont use
