Push - what can it do?
Hey guys,
I am finaly comming around to consider buying a Push if it can do the following:
I have a drum rack on each track (8 total), each drum rack contains 7 Samplers, each Sampler 128 Samples (singe cycle waveforms)
I want to be able to easily choose which of the Samplers Push controls at a given time. I want to have 8 Banks of 8 encoders for each Sampler controlling the same 64 parameters on each Sampler independently (e.g. ADSR, LFO, Filter section etc.). I also want to set up what those parameters are myself.
So, tl,dr: dynamicly updated device controll with 8 self chosen banks of 8 encoders for Samplers parameters posible with Push ?

Re: Push - what can it do?
Well, you can edit individual tracks. You can edit individual effect devices on said track. You can edit individual pads and devices on said pads....so I don't see why what you want isn't possible.

Re: Push - what can it do?
Sounds good. And can I determine myself how the encoders are mapped to parameters in the device (Sampler)?
Re: Push - what can it do?
You could just group it and set up macro knobs.TomViolenz wrote:Sounds good. And can I determine myself how the encoders are mapped to parameters in the device (Sampler)?

But I thought you had different banks/pages of 8 encoders each that one can assign to many different parameters in a device?!
Re: Push - what can it do?
You do have different banks/pages, which in Sampler's case is already setup. You access the various parameters/areas of Sampler by diving in and out of sub banks etc on Push. Stuff like ADSR/ filter cutoff/res etc etc. You cannot set these up yourself unfortunately, you'd have to use Macro knobs for that - which as you said, provide only 8 controls.
I've just opened Live, loaded a blank Sampler onto a track. I have slightly altered my default Sampler - I've turned on all the envelope buttons. This is what you can access immediately:
Top level:
Filterfreq/Res/Fe Env/ Fe Decay/Ve Attack/ Ve Release/ transpose/ Volume - These are just common parameters Ableton decided to show up first.
If you dive one level deeper, you get to choose from 8 sub-banks via the amber button beneath each catergory. They are:
Volume bank/ Filter bank/ FilterEnv bank/ LFO1 bank/ LFO2 bank/ LFO3 bank/ Oscillator Bank/ Pitch bank
Selecting for example LFO1 I'd be in the lowest sub level, with the following parameters available:
L1 Wave/ L1 Sync/ L1 Syncrate/ L1 Rate/ LFO vol/ Filt Vol/ LFO pan/ LFO pitch
The same goes for the other 7 sub-banks. I just wish they'd map every single goddamn parameter. For example under oscillator, there are only 8 parameters to tweak, when that section of Sampler has 16 in total. Surely they could make another sublevel to dive deeper and access those as well?
Not totally what you wanted I guess, but this is how it works. With VSTs, you'd just "configure" any parameters you wanna tweak and they'd show up in similar banks. Most people would probably map the 8 most important ones to macros.

Re: Push - what can it do?
Thanks a lot, that is the kind of answer I needed. I guess I could live with those standart options, but a setup to my own liking would of course be better. Is there maybe some Phyton script where you could change the parameter order of the standard set up in some options text?tedlogan wrote:You do have different banks/pages, which in Sampler's case is already setup. Re: Push - what can it do?
It's likely, but I don't know anything about Python scripts, nor have I used any for Push. There are many people around here who knows Python really well though. One script people keep mentioning is PXT. Perhaps that can go deeper into customizing parameters.

Re: Push - what can it do?
I kind of thought, there must be some file in the Live 9 Package that spells out the assignment and that you can open with a text editor and change the order of a few lines and that just reorders how the standard Sampler template looks.tedlogan wrote:It's likely, but I don't know anything about Python scripts, nor have I used any for Push. Does anyone here know?

Yeah, thank you both for your help!Logic8807 wrote:Glad someone else came along to further expand! Hope you find what you need.
I already started saving up for Push now
BTW: If anyone still has an answer to if/how it could be possible to change the layout/choice of parameters that Sampler is assigned in Push, I would be very interested in hearing it!

So apparently there is a tool that can do this called Lime. You can find information about it at:TomViolenz wrote:Yeah, thank you both for your help!Logic8807 wrote:Glad someone else came along to further expand! Hope you find what you need.

But you'll have to sign up to be able to access the link.
According to that thread it seems, that yes: it should be able to change the default settings for any control surface, including Push, but no: there is no Live 9 compatible version yet. It may, or may not be up-dated according to a post at their forum. So we'll see.
