Hi I've been piecing together equipment whenever I get the money to purchase any.
Sadly I have no studio speakers to listen to my work on. I have silly speakers I got in 2009 from purchasing a desktop.

I now have some money to buy speakers, and now the decision making begins. But i don't know where to even begin.

I'm looking for something <$500 .. can someone lead me in the right direction? am I not going to get anything quality for under <500 altogether?

I have the older KRK 8s and they have been pretty good to me. I also have a KRK sub too which makes all the difference for producing real low end stuff.

I bought mine about 8 years ago when I sold my car back then and I expected them to sound amazing because I really wasn't educated in Monitors as I used mainly monitor headphones and a large stereo for listening. First thing I found was I could not hear any low end so I purchased a sub. After everything when I had what I thought was a "good sounding" setup I discovered that everything I produced was too bass heavy. Now, I know how to listen for the room and tune the setup much better but point is don't expect miracles if you don't have much experience. Speakers themselves are great for the cost tho.

Yeah bought a used pair of Krk rokkits 8 and they helped me improve my mixes by alot! Make sure to read up on placement and room acoustics to get the most of them

Equator D5 are supposed to be really good in that price range. Have a listen if you can.

New Adam f series are supposedly pretty good at that price point.

Do some research on the Airmotiv's.

bear in mind also that the sound of your room greatly affects the sound of your monitors...

If you're looking for a great pair of monitors, you need look no further than the KRK Rokit series. I recently bought a pair and I can say without a doubt that these are some of the best monitors you can get! You're gonna like the way they sound. I guarantee it.

KRKs are highly overrated. Check out the Equator D5s. $400 for the pair. They are only available direct, but they have a 60 day money back policy. I am quite pleased with them.

hmmmm... i've got krk rokit 8s. the old ones. and well they are ok. they are better than what i had before and better than nothing. i can't even slightly agree with some of the gushing reviews in this thread. they are definitely not very transparent compared to monitors friends have like events for example and at first all of my mixes came out very bass heavy. i've learned them and can judge a bit better now. so my review of the rokits is they are ok and way better than what you had before if you're considering them. i think the 8s might be a little to big for my small room too.

that being said i'm trying to sell them to get equator 5's.

All this research has lead me to another question: How should I go about buying a specific AC voltage? Example: the speaker offers 2 different AC voltages. How do I know which one I should be looking at? I don't quite understand the whole VAC level.

I've tried looking this question up but have been coming up with nothing!

Should be whatever the AC voltage is int he country you live.

Australia = AC 240v

Most gear is dual voltage but always check. I have a machine mixer from the states that is ONLY 120v AC so I needed a step down transformer for that one.
