Controllers running into each other in midi map.
Controllers running into each other in midi map.
I have the APC40, the MPD26, and the Launchpad Mini. I use all 3 of them in my live sets and they all are very fun controllers. My problem is I cannot use each controller to its full potential because eventually their mappings start to run into each other. Therefor, I can only midi map certain buttons/knobs on each controller before problems start to arise. Example: My knob on the APC40 that I assigned to control an auto filter also controls a autopan I have my MPD26 controlling on a different knob. Which I don't want happening. Is there a way around this?

you can use different channels for the different controllers...
Re: Controllers running into each other in midi map.
I mean in the project in general. That doesn't solve the problem. They still eventually run into each other. Different channel or not, they still run into each other.

Re: Controllers running into each other in midi map.
you have over 4000 different MIDI messages and channels to choose from.
maybe you need to organise things better?

I'm sure what you're saying makes perfect sense but I'm not exactly getting it still haha. Maybe add me on skype real quick and get this sorted out?

Re: Controllers running into each other in midi map.
The only way a control from 1 controller can affect another is if they are the came controller number/note and on the same transmitting MIDI channel.
The solution is (if possible) change the MIDI channel of one controller...
Lets say you Map a control on your APC to something in Ableton. Your APC controller may be CC20 and the APC may be transmitting MIDI on CH1. Your MPD may also be on CH1 and may also have a controller set to CC20. I know it's possible to change controls and channels on the MPD but not on the LP or APC.
I recommend researching what the default MIDI channels are for your APC and Launchpad then download the Config utility for the MPD26 and set a global channel that is NOT one for the APC or LP.
If that still doesn't make sense then you will have to dome research on How MIDI works.

if the Launchpad Mini works the same as the bigger Launchpads, then you certainly can change the MIDI channels and messages...

Is that with automap or something? I never knew it was possible with launchpads though I use Bome so I just sort everything out with that. Thought the LP was fixed to Ch 1 and 5 or something.

Not only automap
You are using Akai, right? The Akai controllers come with MIDI editors that allow you to allocate the signals sent sent by the buttons and faders on your controller.
You can download the software from the Akai site, and it is really easy and intuitive to use.
As FIshmonkey says, the simplest is to change the channels.
Or you can edit the actual CC and note codes sent by our controller
It does take a bit of planning. Decide what you want each control surface, knob, slider, etc to do. Make the changes using the midi editor. Make sure that this matches up with the midi preferences settings. With a little bit of prep you can make sure that they do not interfere with each other at all.

Re: Controllers running into each other in midi map.
Just a short question regarding several controllers having the blue hand or red box capabilities:
Can two controllers (presumably on different midi channels) have independent active devices or clip launching areas?
(Basically two blue hands and two red boxes)
Thanks!

I've locked different devices independently to different controllers (blue hand). Controlling one device with Push, and another at the same time with MPD 32.
Dunno about dem red boxes.

Different control surfaces that have session control will have their own session selection zones, with different coloured rectangles...

Re: Controllers running into each other in midi map.
Do you need to lock one of the devices specifically to one control surface (in the context menu of the device) to achieve this, or is it really just independent blue hands?! Would be awesome! The Finn wrote:I've locked different devices independently to different controllers (blue hand). Controlling one device with Push, and another at the same time with MPD 32.
