Recovering a project with crashing M4L

Post by dtomaloff » Thu Oct 17, 2013 1:16 am

I have a project that I cannot open. It crashes on load and says that cycle~.mx64 is the problem. Is there any way to get in and recover the work? I have a suspicion that either an instance of LFO or Mono Sequencer is the issue.

Ableton and M4L are both 64 bit current versions on a Windows machine. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If you navigate to the set from within Abletons browser you should be able to pull it apart track by track by expanding the ALS file... Best i can think of i'm afraid...

Or try reinstalling Max4live just in case that helps (always my first port of call)

I experienced lately all kind of weird behavior on Windows 8, Live 9.0.6, Max 6.1.3 64bit. Maybe updating to 6.1.4 solves the problem (coudn't check yet if it solved my issues).
Live 9.5 (64bit), Max 7.0.6, Windows 10, Push 2, Korg electribe2, Bass Station II, Launch Control XL, Faderfox DJ3

Thanks for the input, folks! I know

S4racen: I'll try both of those suggestions tonight. Thank you! This made me wonder, in the event that neither works, what would happen if M4L were temporarily uninstalled? Would Live just give me errors and let me move on from there, or would something left in the project still crash it? Theoretically, I mean.

Theoretically the plug in couldn't load, it'd be greyed out.... This does happen if the device isn't saved in the set as a project and removed from the harddrive as well...

Would recommend temporarily removing the offending device from where live is loading the device. This way the device wont load, but your set will.

So, I reinstalled M4L and viewed the ALS file with Live's browser. I'm pretty new to all of this, so please bear with me here. It doesn't show group tracks (which I'm guessing is normal), so effects used on groups cannot be accounted for.

With this said, I was able to bring each track into Live individually, and they all played. One, however, gave me a list of errors (see attached). It should be noted that the track was a Granulator II instance with both Mono Sequencer and LFO running, so lots of M4L there.

Two questions remain:

1) Do these errors mean anything specific? There were many more of the same errors repeated.

2) Is there anything I can do from here to save the original file? Like, can I disengage effects and save it? Or can I only try to reconstruct a new project from here?

I'd definitely like to get to the bottom of what is going wrong in any case so I can avoid it in the future. ESPECIALLY if I have to reconstruct it.

Your help and time are both appreciated. Thank you.

In case you're still looking for a solution, you're probably better off posting about this on the Cycling 74 forums:
