Project 5 & Live - and a leftfield suggestion

Post by Rx » Mon May 05, 2003 12:59 am

I checked the demos, which are horrible, but the VSTi functionality is very appealing. Any further reviews? Still having issues when using particular dxi? Any issues with VSTi? How's the cpu usage? Enquiring minds want to know!

The Propellerheads will never let Reason become a VSTi host, but why not port the best VSTi into Reason? Instead of picking between Malstrom & Subtractor, we could pick FM7 as a Reason synth. Is this suggestion too ridiculous to even consider?

re: reason idea, that'd be lush, they could license a couple of cool vsti's (like FM7 and pro52 or something) and then convert them into reason synths! nice!

i got to try out Project 5 thru Live on my friend's Toshiba laptop which had a 2.4 Ghz Intel inside. i was really impressed! Project 5 is insane, very easy to use, sounds great, etc. Rewire worked flawlessly and didn't seem to put much of any strain on Live. put it this way, i liked Project 5 with Live so much that i'm considering switching from Mac to PC just to get it.

it is doubtful that reason will change its lack of vsts, and though different from reason, project 5 is the only current real answer to getting all kinds of vsts in live (I'm rewiring project5 into Live with fruityloops running as a vst, and other vst intruments inside live!!). If on a pc and desiring for vsti's in live, look no further than P5. If on a mac, i guess its pc time--hey at least live will run better on the pc anyway.

I am a denizen of the land of pc - just got a laptop a couple of months ago - 2.4ghz 512mb and I am loving it. I enjoy working with Reason, but my favored synths are FM7 and Albino. If Project 5 is stable, then I definitely want to check it out. Any issues with cpu usage?

Goon - just heard that fine remix by Ochre. I think I might have to take a crack at the next remix...

I dig Reason, I really do. But what drives me crazy is:

1) On 1600x1200 the Reason Rack is TINY as hell
2) Something about the audio, its standard volume level is much lower than other apps, thus making everything sound thinner unless you add a Spider, some BV512 EQs, and some compressors at the master outputs. Even then it has 'this sound' that makes me feel like I'm locked in a certain world.

Otherwise, I think it's fantastic. I love the NN-XT and Redrum! Scream4 is good too.

sorry for getting into your question to Ryan, but i couldnt stay silent;) i think P5 is cleaner and better to work with, and that goes for VSTi as well. there's more order and everything is there and makes sense. maybe just my opinion, but having tried both programs, i prefer P5, it works with you kind of. try it and you'll see ;)
