Strange problem
Strange problem
Hy guys,
I've got a strange problem since 9.0 with Live, installing Mavericks did not solved it.
The problem : sometimes (randomly) my keyboard and mouse stop working under Live. The comouter doesn't stop working, still playing the live set, without any problem, I can move the mouse cursor, but can't click or do anything. (both extrrnal and built in keyboard mouse die on Macbook Pro)
Hard reset solve the problem, but now its very frustrating. (this will ben the 14th restart in this hour)
The problem pop up only if using Live, not with other softwares...
Any ideas???

This is kind of a long shot, but do you happen to have Sticky Keys turned on in OS X? (System Preferences > Universal Access > Keyboard). When Sticky Keys is turned on, hitting a modifier key (shift, control, command, option) more than once makes it "stick" on. It's intended to enable people who can't hold two keys at once to use the modifier keys. If you inadvertently activated it and, say, "command" was stuck, the mouse might not work as expected. If you don't need it, make sure Sticky Keys is turned off and the checkbox that says "Press the Shift key five times to turn Sticky Keys on or off" is unchecked.
Along the same lines, I use an external keyboard on my MacBook Pro and sometimes one of the modifier keys gets stuck on it (not mechanically, but somehow the computer thinks one of the keys is being held down when it actually isn't. Faulty software in the keyboard, I guess.) The same thing happens in that case. Unplugging and replugging the external keyboard fixes it.
Just a few things to check.

Re: Strange problem
I've had this experience related to a Live crash. Because Live is relatively stable & seems to be arranged to keep audio going, a critical breakdown somewhere else can basically turn Live non-responsive while it keeps playing audio (e.g. in session mode)
If this is the case, what you may see is that while the audio is playing, if you change programs (ctrl-tab) and then go to Force Quit, it will show you Live is not responding.
If it does NOT say Live is not responding, then it may be this sticky key issue. Or something else. But Live can sometimes keep playing after it has crashed. check it out.

Can't click to anywhere...even the alt+tab didn't work anymore...The Finn wrote:force quit and send the crash report pack to abes.

Well, didn't use any special keyboard shortcuts before the problem.ObtuseMoose wrote:This is kind of a long shot, but do you happen to have Sticky Keys turned on in OS X? For example, last time, just tried to move a sample into Simpler, then "freeze". I can see the small document icon together with my mouse cursor, but thats all.
If I move my mouse to the dock it doesn't show me the name of the app icons, nothing.
It looks like something kills my keyboard mouse.
Re: Strange problem
As I told above, can't make alt+tab. I have to keep pushing my power button to restart the computer. The Finn wrote:I've had this experience related to a Live crash. If i press the power button once, to turn it to sleep mode, nothing happends.
The weirdest thing is that if I close the laptop it wont go to sleep mode:(
Always have to hard reset...
Re: Strange problem
I was running Live Suite 8.2.7 and I was having the exact same issue. Whenever working in Live it's a guarantee that it will lock up and freeze after about 15-20 minutes of usage. The audio will still be playing, but my keyboard will stop working and my mouse literally disappears from the screen. I cannot alt+tab to page through other applications because it is frozen. I cannot pull up Force Quit to see if Live is appearing as Not Responding. The only thing that I can do is a hard reset. Also, on top of that, when I start Ableton, I get the lovely message stating that ReWire is not able to be used. This whole ordeal happens every single time. Ever since I upgraded from OS X 10.8 to OS X 10.9.
I thought maybe since I haven't upgraded my Ableton to 8.4.1 yet, that might have something to do with it. After updating to 8.4.1, now it doesn't even load a blank Live set without crashing. This time it IS allowing me to alt+tab and page to another application and then Force Quit. It does show that Live is not responding. I quit it, and order is restored to the universe of my MacBook.
I really think that the OS X upgrade has something to do with it, and it's nothing on Ableton's part. I didn't have a single issue with Ableton ever until upgrading to 10.9 Mavericks. Now nothing works. I'm hoping that maybe Apple will come out with an update that will fix the issue? I am at a loss on what I can do. No one seem's to have an answer. Not Apple. Not Ableton. No one on any forum I've seen. No one. Very frustrating.
[EDIT]
I did stumble upon this:

Re: Strange problem
Versions older than Live 9.1 (i.e. Live 9.0 - 9.0.6) will not work flawlessly on OS X 10.9.

I have these problems under 10.8, with 9.0.6.The Finn wrote:Versions older than Live 9.1 (i.e. Live 9.0 - 9.0.6) will not work flawlessly on OS X 10.9.

So as 9.1 hasn't been officially released (only beta) yet but OSX 10.9 is the current official OS for Mac, they actually should stop selling Live for Mac until 9.1 is out.
Re: Strange problem
Whatever may have caused your problem before, it may now be caused by a bug in Mavericks:

Re: Strange problem
Yes, same issue here. Did it on Ableton Live 10 and still does it on Ableton Live 11.
Weird thing is, the Ableton Push responds perfectly still ... it's just the mouse and keyboard that become unresponsive and the whole program begins to lag. I'm barely using any plugins either....
Windows 10 here.
