Russel Brand On Revolution
Re: Russel Brand On Revolution
Russel Brand may be revolting, but he is only reiterating what others have said before him

Maybe it is all smoke and mirrors with this guy I dont know. It does seem insane to say "with the certainty and willingness to die of religious fundamentalists" I take that part as; "go out and fight for me" and " with the twinkling mischief of the trickster" sounds like a psychopath who is suggesting socialism but may be working to produce something more menacing than the current system.artworks wrote:nathannn wrote:He wasn't talking about Anarchy, he was talking about Socialism.artworks wrote:We should always be wary of wealthy people who prescribe anarchy as a solution. Anarchy always terrorizes most of the people including the most vulnerable, it's a distopian solution; Brand underestimates the misery of the poverty and violence that anarchy would bring down upon everyone. The irony is that the present wealthy minority who abuse the rest of us would still be immune from the worst of it. Russell Brand's anarchy would be a self inflicting, stupid idea. To listen carefully to Brand's rhetoric is to experience his overweening narcissism. He talks entertainingly but always without personal responsibility or viable alternatives and always in the form of generalised clichés and slogans. It's hilarious but embarrassing listening to his artificial revolutionary critique of 'paradigms'.
Hello Nathan, yes, RB was talking about socialism and, rightly, about a corrupt and moribund political system.
You may have seen this interview: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/10 ... ostpopular While I have affection for Brand as an entertainer it's of concern that he often expresses views like the following, he writes, "Revolt in whatever way we want, with the spontaneity of the London rioters, with the certainty and willingness to die of religious fundamentalists or with the twinkling mischief of the trickster." Does this not suggest anarchy? Perhaps I'm exaggerating Rb's intention here. However, for someone who has just spent over two million on a hollywood house, his socialist idealism does seem conditional while his narcissism remains unbounded.
I also could take it all as some one who is fed up with the current system and is living like a capitalist pig because he is living in a capitalist world with currently no other option except to buy shit. Also that house he bought is from when he was with Katy Perry. A divorce or a break up can really change a persons world views or put them in perspective.
I really dont know his intentions because I dont know him nor am I him. I just agreed with what he had to say in the video and I do find some of his comedy to be funny. I dont give a shit if he was Married to Katy Perry, he isn't married to her now and I could speculate that she left him because of his leftist views.

Re: Russel Brand On Revolution
For the most part I questioned man made global warming after realizing that the people behind are using it to unjustly tax people for using carbon emitting vehicles with out there being a proper transition into lower carbon emitting vehicles. Here in the U.S. you must drive, there is no proper public transportation and electric, wind or any other low carbon emitting vehicles have not been made available to everyone nor has public transportation.ObiKaNobi wrote:How someone can still believe global warming is not man made is beyond me. It's been proven time and time again, not only that but it's agreed upon by many, many schools and respectable scientists that the earth is in fact warming steadily, more so than it ever has before.
More and more studies come out showing the average surface temperature is in fact rising steadily. I remember reading something along the lines of, if we don't change things soon our surface temperature could rise by 6 whole degrees by the end of the century. Which, is insane.
Our planet is on a course of heating up, becoming very acidic and dry. Our planet is on a natural doomsday course anyhow, eventually the sun will become so hot our planet will be scorched. This is not for another billions of years but if we keep our shit up our planet could end up being like that before another million!
I question it because Disney made a movie and blasted pictures everywhere of polar bears trapped on melting ice and then showing the poor bears swimming without telling people that polar bears can swim hundreds of miles, if it all wasn't bullshit why would they manipulate the public like this?. I also question it because I see it as a fucking land grab by the government and I question it because "Scientist" can not reach a proper consensus on it.
Why should I not question it? Should I believe it just because all the other leftist believe it? Im free to question everything,I don't just believe something just because people that have some of my views believe it.
Im not saying to trash the earth, Im not saying we should rape the earth of all its oil and natural resources im against that. I do believe pollution is real. I don't think factories should get away with pumping shit into the air that make people sick, I dont think plastic or synthetic fabrics are good for humans, but I also think it may be natural for the earth to go through changes.

Wow! Nine pages into the thread and we're finally back on topic.
Funken, if you had bothered to read the editorial rather than just skip through it, you would know that Brand is calling for a revolution in consciousness rather than violence in the streets or tinkering with a broken, outdated political system.
And the irony of the way he's being slagged off while he's touring a show called Messiah Complex is pure gold.

"The London riots in 2011, which were condemned as nihilistic and materialistic by Boris and Cameron (when they eventually returned from their holidays), were by that very definition political. These young people have been accidentally marketed to their whole lives without the economic means to participate in the carnival."
"To me a potent and triumphant leftist movement, aside from the glorious Occupy rumble, is a faint, idealistic whisper from sepia rebels. The formation of the NHS, holiday pay, sick pay, the weekend – achievements of peaceful trade union action were not achieved in the lifetime of the directionless London rioters. They are uninformed of the left’s great legacy as it is dismantled around them."
"For me the solution has to be primarily spiritual and secondarily political. This, too, is difficult terrain when the natural tribal leaders of the left are atheists, when Marxism is inveterately Godless."
"Here the end of the world is not a prophecy but a condition"
"Profit is the most profane word we have. In its pursuit we have forgotten that while individual interests are being met, we as a whole are being annihilated.
"We have succumbed to an ideology that is 100 per cent corrupt and must be overthrown."
"We British seem to be a bit embarrassed about revolution, like the passion is uncouth or that some tea might get spilled on our cuffs in the uprising. That revolution is a bit French or worse still American. Well, the alternative is extinction so now might be a good time to re-evaluate. The apathy is in fact a transmission problem, when we are given the correct information in an engaging fashion, we will stir."
"My optimism comes entirely from the knowledge that this total social shift is actually the shared responsibility of six billion individuals who ultimately have the same interests. Self-preservation and the survival of the planet."
"The only systems we can afford to employ are those that rationally serve the planet first, then all humanity."
"Now there is an opportunity for the left to return to its vital, virile, vigorous origins. A movement for the people, by the people, in the service of the land. Socialism’s historical connection with spiritual principles is deep. Sharing is a spiritual principle, respecting our land is a spiritual principle"
"Now is the time to continue the great legacy of the left,"

But before we change the world, we need to change the way we think.
Total revolution of consciousness and our entire social, political and economic system is what interests me, but that’s not on the ballot.
The absurdity of our localised consciousness and global ignorance hit me hard when I went on a Comic Relief trip to Kenya.
What does it matter if 2,000 years ago Christ died on the cross and was resurrected if we are not constantly resurrected to the truth, anew, moment to moment? How is his transcendence relevant if we do not resurrect our consciousness from the deceased, moribund mind of our obsolete ideologies and align with our conditions?
Consciousness itself must change. My optimism comes entirely from the knowledge that this total social shift is actually the shared responsibility of six billion individuals who ultimately have the same interests.
This is why I believe we need a unifying and inclusive spiritual ideology: atheism and materialism atomise us and anchor us to one frequency of consciousness and inhibit necessary co-operation.
The revolution of consciousness is a decision, decisions take a moment. In my mind the revolution has already begun.

I WONDER IF RUSSEL LET KATY LICK HIS ASSHOLE? MAYBE FUNKEN AND MYRNOVA HAVE SOME THOUGHTS ON THIS?

You want something meaningful regarding your "real issues"? Here goes:Funk N. Furter wrote:Yes we know. Your posts are completely without meaning. Meanwhile, back in the real world, some of us are discussing real issues.stringtapper wrote:I don't give a fuck about your causes or the causes of those you oppose. Nihilism. Just waiting to die here (and waiting [patiently] for you to die as well).
You're going to die, probably in that chair, before anything ever gets done about rampant capitalism, if it ever does.
Why?
Because myrnova is right about one thing. He has said elsewhere that it will take violent revolution. But neither you nor him have the balls to do something like strap on some explosives and make something of yourselves (or unmake, as it were).
Your options are:
1. Change yourself
2. Change those you disagree with
3. Kill yourself
4. Kill those you disagree with
Of course because ideologues like you and myrnova and your right-wing counterparts will likely never change, killing each other seems to be your only option. Unfortunately for you the right-wingers pretty much control all the killing machines. So I dunno, option 3?
My opinion, just wait. Things will eventually fall apart because of global warming and you'll probably have a better shot at it when people everywhere are desperate.
Or you could end up on someone's grill.
