So yeah, I'm just going to use my old band's name... Hidden Driveways
So come see DJ Topless Lovely, er, um, I mean Hidden Driveways at Blu Lounge, Thursday August 25th. 197 North 8th Street, Williamsburg Brooklyn. My set starts at 8PM and will only go for 30 - 45 minutes. It's free!
One guy on stage with a laptop, controller, and a guitar and an amp. Plus my friend's band El Jezel play after me and they are great.
But anyway, back to titles. I was thinking about the name Ableton Live the other day. It's great because the title 'Live' is the ultimate in ambiguity, while 'Ableton' is the opposite of abiguity. I know! I'll be DJ Ableton Live! What do you think?

Hey sales dude, will you be at that bar any time between Sept. 6th and Oct. 10th? I am coming to NYC for 5 weeks to work on a TV show I'm not allowed to name, but that rhymes with The Puprentice.
I will be extremely busy doing certain "tasks" relating to my job, but there should be an opportunity here or there to come out at night.
For that matter, anyone else want to chime in with definite "must-do's" while in the NYC? And I don't mean "go to the Empire State Building & The Statue of Liberty".

Sooo, I use my real one all the time, but if I shorted my name to Tim Allan, then everyone calls me the toolman. Hmm, DJ Tool?SethAbare wrote:Use your real name if you can, but if your name sounds stupid get a pen name that sounds unique but simular to your real name, so that you actually might respond to it, and wont become annoyed at the people using it.
DJ Toolman?
DJ The Tool?

Hi Draff...
So you're coming to the big city, eh? Hopefully I'll have another show during the time that you're here. At one point Vercengetorex was going to organize an NYC Ableton Users group, but I don't think it ever happened. Maybe your visit will spur him into action??? Or maybe my show on Thrusday August 25 at 8PM sharp at Blu Lounge in Williamsburg (a-hem) can serve as the first NYC Ableton Users Group meeting???
Anyhow, there are lots of great things to do while in town, obviously. I personally reccomend:
1) Taking a special someone for an after dinner drink at The Gramercy Park Hotel. By far my favorite spot for this sort of thing.
2) Go to Punk Rock Metal Karaoke on Monday night at The Continental. It used to be at Arlene's Grocery, but I think it moved. Totally fun. A live band plays the song and people get up and have to sing.
3) This should actually be #2 or #1, but you must go to the Bulgarian Disco near Canal Street. It's also called the Russian Disco. I forget exactly where it's located but if you research it you can find out. Totally a blast.

Yeah, I've learned not to judge since DJ Rap is supposedly really good.
Best == DJ Premier (who I got to see with non-phixion a few days ago) or Cut Chemist
Worst == Can't really think of one off of the top of my head...
Also, you might think about what your name will abreviate to among MCs, I'm DJ Twizzler (djtwizzler.com) which is not a cool name at all, but MCs I work with shorten it to DJ Twiz which I think comes off pretty well...
