No, you'll be fine if you never go to the net. You can even desactivate all services and even hardware that is network related. Should run very smooth.New Yawkah wrote:I plan to use this laptop STRICTLY for audio and never go on the net. Do I still need to do all these extra steps to keep running smooth?
Just to bring a little more here: I'm using IBM centrino laptop, and have been more than happy with it. Rock solid (very good case) etc....

What about if I download a few (eg) free music related programs or plugins on my net friendly MAC and burn it to CD and dump it on the PC. Should I still get some sort of simple "scanning" program to be safe? Is there a program that I can just "scan" the CD to check for any virus or worms or whatever that I can disable it as soon as it does it's thing so I don't have to worry about it slowing my system down while I'm working with live? I have heard that a lot of these programs are constantly working and scanning and using precious cpu space all the time. Which would you guys/girls recommend.
THANKS for the good info so far!

Hmm...Will it run on Windows? I thought Apple use .sit, and I know for a fact Windows use .exe If you could run it, I doubt you would have to worry about a virus or anything, afterall, OS X doesn't get hacked. I could be wrong, I haven't used Mac's alot, someone else could probably explain it better.
There is always a possibiliry that you download an infected mac on your mac, be it an exe or zip file. The virus would simply be harmless on the mac, but could be active back on the PC. I would be a good idea to have an antivirus for which you get new virus definitions on your mac, burn them, install them regularly, and then, as soon as you get a new app, scan it on the PC before installing.Living_Fiction wrote:Hmm...Will it run on Windows? Second thing, in my experience, the least you will install, the best it will be. Not a hard rule, but some limitation is good.
