How about transparent acrylic plates?!
Should be cheap, easy to build yourself and look bad-ass... 8O :D

Acrylic is indeed cool and cheap. Make sure that the height of the encoders you are using are long enough to go all the way through the material.
Acrylic is very brittle, so be extremely careful and have extra pieces available if you have to do any cutting. If you make a mistake, acrylic cement works like magic. There will also be a little flex if you are using sheets larger than, uh, 10" or so.

I'll pay attention to that (once I actually have something to put in a case ;-)).
BTW My plans are somewhat progressing, but my research right now is happening in other forums. Once I have a clear picture what I'll do, I will update this thread.

I have a friend who builds amps & such, and if you can send the design specs, I am sure he can build me one 8)

It could be though that the supply of the boards is somewhat limited, so I'll have to go out and ask the guy. I unfourtunately missed the group buy on this late last year.
