Well Ableton is a private company, and by releasing a not-so-perfect product, a strong incentive to upgrade to the next version of Push remains.

I find it highly unlikely that Ableton is thinking this way! Maybe they could have made Intro more complete in fuctions, instead of angling for the up-sell, but I seriously doubt they would actively harm their product.
They seem to be proud of it and they are working pretty hard on improving it all the time! (See: 9.1)

I'd have to agree with everything said here. Especially if you're working with your computer monitor in front of you, but nonetheless I believe this was a major oversight. Whether or not they can provide some means for us being able to adjust it remains to be seen.. Sad because when you position yourself, leaning directly over and towards the back of the machine the screen is quite beautiful without all of the lit pixels, very annoying. I wouldn't hold my breath on this one
