acid or reason ?????????
sometimes too many options is a really paralyzing thing. pick one or two pieces of equipment or software and just work with Live and those pieces. definitely work through the Csi stuff, as well as the manual and/or the Live 4 power book. most of all just be patient and keep at it; a LOT of the answers to your questions will magically become clear with some practice and diligence.

Wait... You spent $7,000 on equipment and you're still trying to figure out what you want to use? I really hope that that money was spent on hardware synths. If it was, then there really isn't a reason (hahahaha) to use Reason.
A decent VA synth will beat the pants of Reason sonically. Granted it will cost more, but I'm sure you already own one. Spend your $300 on beer instead, and learn how to use your hardware instead of buying Reason.

Man what did you spend 7 grand on, VSTs, programs, ???
I would stick with Live, I like it better than Acid cause Live has more to it and it was easier for me to work with VST, recording and so forth than Acid.
Depending on what you bought with that bunch of cash, if you bought some VSTs, learn music theory if you dont, and some creativity to make melodies. If there is get the manual for your VSTS and learn them. Read on synthesis to further yourself on the soft synths, learn sequencing for your VST sequencers and so forth.
IF also bought hardware synths, samplers and so forth, if you dont have an inferace, get one and hook it up to Live and then route all that into Live and use them too.
After all that spending, if you need something else, from the two mentioned before, I would get Reason. I rewire Reason into Live and it makes it a nice combo or you can FL Studio and rewire it. whatever floats your boat. But use what you got, cause that is also what I am doing.
also, after seeing a reply, you can do stuttering and so forth in Live, in clip view, shrink the loop section on the clip down to where its doing the pulsating sound and you have it.

That's an age old sympton of a really really bad case of GAS (gear acquisition syndrome), it's nice to have a job to finally get pretty much anything you want (at least at entry level prices) but you really REALLY should learn how to use what you have before you buy new stuff, especially if you're going to play live. People have done much more with much less.
I haven't used Acid for a few years, from the version I bought years ago it seems the track view in Live covers a lot of Acid's features.
Reason is awesome but given Live with (freely available) VSTs why bother? IMHO Reason has sound quality issues <runs and hides>.
Stick with Live, it'll do more than you realise. Whaddya expect from an Ableton forum anyway
So, what did you buy for $7k (and what's your address and when are you not at home)??
toys... toys... toys...

Last night I took on the task of sorting thorugh hundreds (close to 1000) records - seperating all the techno from the house and searching for more samples and loops to jack - after I took everything down and put everything back up I decideed to get rid of a bunch of old Computer Music Magazines
So After I got everyting all nice and neat back into place I looked around and realized the only things I have to write beats is a wall of records, a trigger finger and Mac Mini - that's it 2 KRK's and a MBOX
Crazy - Because I thought back when I first got into beats I thought I had to have it all - have it all
but 5 years later I'm down to a really tiny computer (running only Live) a Trigger Finger and hella records
All you need is Live and some creativity - that's it - throw in some plugs and you're straight
here's some beats made with only Live
