Hi all,
I was sad to see that Live 9.1 still does not give us proper step sequencing for Impulse (e.g. like it does for drum racks). So I took a whack at making a Drum Rack that wraps Impulse. But then I figured, why not two Impulses (16 pads is perfect for two Impulse devices with eight slots each)?
Here is what I came up with: http://bit.ly/1bdl6CW
How to use:
1. Download and install ImpulseDuo.adg
2. Drop an ImpulseDuo Drum Rack into a MIDI track.
3. Drop your favorite Impulse into the "Impulse 1" chain (make sure to leave the Scale device in the chain). This will be the top half of the 16 pads.
4. Drop another Impulse into the "Impulse 2" chain (make sure to leave the Scale device in the chain). This will be the bottom half of the 16 pads.
The rack works by setting two chains on the Drum Rack to receive "all" and then uses a Scale device to remap the notes to Impulse. Unfortunately Live and the Push see the drum pads as empty (which the technically are), so they do not display as "on" in the Push. Not a big deal, but it is easy to get lost if you scroll out of the C1-C2 range. To address this I put an empty chain on G#1 and C1 which lights up the first slot of each Impulse. These two empty chains are labeled "Display C1" and "Display G#1".
I hope this is helpful to some other Impulse fans. If anyone has any recommendations for how to improve this device, please let me know. I only recently upgraded from Live 6 to Live 9, so I am still a little unfamiliar with the receive/play options in the Drum Rack chains.
Take care,
Eric
Edits: teh grammars and a new link.
Step Sequencing Impulse with Push
Re: Step Sequencing Impulse with Push
After using this a bit tonight I realized that it is frustrating not to see the slots labeled on the left side of the piano roll, on the Push display, etc. So I created a second version of this device. This version puts empty chains on all of the slots mapped to impulse, and labels them. I used labels that make sense for me (I always do kick, snare1, snare2, accent1, accent2, accent3, closed hat, open hat), but these are easily editable to whatever makes sense.8MoreBits wrote:Not a big deal, but it is easy to get lost if you scroll out of the C1-C2 range. Otherwise, this rack has the same basic instructions as the previous version.

Tried it and it's great!
Adding sends and return would make it the perfect drums instrument.
Thanks.
