Effect trails after mute

Post by scottorlans » Sat Aug 06, 2005 11:32 pm

Add an option to allow effect trails to play out after a track has been muted (whether by a direct mute operation or the soloing of another track or tracks). Allow user to specify an effect trail fade time.

right. that sounds a bit complicated (the first post).

Alternatively (if you aren't playing a full song), just stop the clip and have it trail off....and pull in the feedback time (if it was a delay) to curb the tail...

Yes I could be done this way but why make it more difficult then it has to be. Also this is less of a spontaneous thing. A simple option to allow trails to play would be great. There's never anything wrong with more options...

Depends on your view. I think setting up a additional busses is more complicated. I'm coming at this from a live performance standpoint, and am looking to mute a clip (not just stop it) and have the trails ring on or fade out based on a specified time to reduce the abruptness of the mute feature.

Better:

add "device on/off" to the clip chooser dropdown (dunno why its not there already)

this way you can build a clip that automatically turns your EFX on/off buttons on demand

so you can build an 8 bar clip that runs dry for 4 bars, turns on the delay on the 4th bar ... is silent for the last 4 bars, and turns the delay off at the end.

simple. you could also have multiple effects controlled by the clip in this way, the skys the limit ... saves on CPU too ...

You can achieve the same thing by using the sends. I don't think this complicates things at all and works beautiful for live use.

Set it up in a way that all FX are on the sends... this free up CPU... any track has access to the FX... the FX trails after muting.... and sends can be hidden as to not clutter up the display. And to do what your talking about with having a clip run dry for four bars and then wet for four. Use the clip automation (envelope) for the FX send level. This is clip independent... very flexible and can be done on the fly during a live set.

Also some nice FX are to be had by making the sends pre fader and messing with the volume fader for the track the clips are on..... given the FX send levels have been automated. Hope this works for U.... but maybe i miss understood what you were saying. Cheers!
