Like if you're well off, when your country's economy takes a blow and your taxes go up a little bit, you can bitch and whine like a spoilt child about "redistribution" and "socialists", or you can man up, take it on the chin and get on with life.

Some people, eh?
So you agree that just as the refugee should stand his ground and fight for a better life, so too should the wealthy industrialist fight to abolish taxes. Glad to have you on my side for once! :)

... and slagging off supporters of 'obamacare' on the Ableton User Forum is an effective strategy in the fight to abolish taxes?

That rattling sound you hear?

It's the social democrats of the world shaking in their boots. 8)

I think the wealthy industrialist should pick up an AK47 and fight to keep his money. He might succeed, but if not the world will be rid of another tight arse rich man. Law of the jungle, innit?

Hiding his wealth in off shore tax havens is for pussies.

What would Jason do?

This has been tried before. It inevitably ended in bloodbaths. Galt's way was to simply stop working, to stop contributing entirely, and to watch the world burn from afar.

I live in California, or as some people refer to it “earthquake country” which means every 30 to 40 years there’s some epic seismic activity and people die. But the vast majority of the time we aren’t getting crushed by falling debris and get to live in the damn awesome state of California.

So maybe every 30 or 40 years there needs to be a similar crushing of the wealthy. Not all of them, but a decent amount. The vast majority of the time they can continue to financially crush the rest of us.

Pros and cons. You get to control the wealth but every so often you could get shanked by the less fortunate.

Yeah, pretty weird I'd say, especially if you are not one of the wealthy industrialists....

Ehm, that's not how it works for wealthy industrialist. They use any nations military and government to do their bidding. It's a lot less messy (for them only of course ;-)) and a lot more effective!

I'm very much for a 100% inheritance and gift tax! That way the rich can not amass power over generations, and everyone starts with a clean slate so to speak!
The ultimate paradise for the "rise on your own merit" people :)

Civilisation can be measured in time preference—live for the now and descend into barbarism, or make plans for the future and build an empire. Inheritance allows us to extend time preference beyond our natural lives. Thus, a tax on inheritance is a tax on civilisation.

NO!
Empire building and fucking powerplays are a major drag on the evolution of civilization. They are literaly "why we can't have nice things"!
If you make a real contribution you can still be sure that your name will be remembered. Make some art, do some science, invent something cool, have the longest schlong, whatever, but please don't let all of humanity further suffer from your desire to agrandize your small ego!!!

First I'm Steve Ballmer, then I'm the Onion, and now I'm the mayor of London.

When will you people learn? You can put a label on me, but you'll never own me, let alone be me.

It's not you I want to label. But we need to tag all your possessions with forwarding addresses for all the lazy people they'll be shipped to.
