I'm working with Ableton 8.2.2 and I have a (what I feel should be relatively easy) MIDI question that has left me stumped for the past week or so.
Is it possible to take the MIDI signal from an existing MIDI drum rack and send it to another MIDI rack so as to trigger multiple sounds simultaneously?
As an example of why I want to try this...
Say you're using follow actions to cut your pattern apart by having it transcribe several patterns into a new pattern through the any function. I want to be able to trigger the correct corresponding sound in the triggered MIDI track so as not to mix and match them by attempting to have 2 random follow actions playing along side the other, as that method will not match up.
I've read about and tried the I/O, but it seems that once you add an instrument to a MIDI track, the MIDI out on it becomes Audio out.
I've also tried using the MIDI from function on the track I am attempting to trigger. I see the MIDI signal active in the pre / post effect drop down but am thus far unable to produce sound with an instrument triggered from the MIDI of another instrument track.
Any pointers or directions to achieve this would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE 1:
I've been able to see it work by creating a MIDI track with patterns on it, then have that control a Kontakt 5 instrument as well as Massive simultaneously the way I want. I only had to select MIDI from the source track on each of their individual tracks.
However when I try to do the same thing inside a drum group of samplers. I am unable to trigger another track until I select a track in the MIDI to drop down, then I must select the sound itself in the drop down that appears, before any sound is triggered on that track. Then I am left only being able to trigger a single additional track as opposed to multiple when I am controlling instruments as opposed to the drum racks.
UPDATE 2:
Final detail to add to my confusion. Tell me if this is the way it has to be or if there is a way to force link them...
I just got it to work by setting the MIDI from on two tracks to the source MIDI track and found that it only works if the tracks are armed to record. Is that how it has to be or is there a way to forever link the two without worrying that the track stay armed?
As you can tell I can see an answer is in sight, just unsure about correct / best practices or anyway to make the connection between the tracks more permanent to not depend on having the track armed to record.
Hopefully I'm just overlooking a detail somewhere. If not, I hope to learn something.
Thank you.

There are too many words in your post to keep focused that early in the morning, but have you tried to set Monitor to In on the receiving tracks?
Live 9.5 (64bit), Max 7.0.6, Windows 10, Push 2, Korg electribe2, Bass Station II, Launch Control XL, Faderfox DJ3

This was exactly the minor detail I knew I was missing. Thanks for reading through my confusion and offering the answer I needed.Because789 wrote:set Monitor to In on the receiving tracks
