FYI I still have my S1000, lots of floppy disks and an Akai S1000 format library CD-ROM.

I still have my s1000 as well. I hit ebay for some of those sounds on either floppy or cd but didnt find any.

Those sounds in the first link you posted are great. For cds i dont have a cd player for the s1000 but could use floppies.

I'll keep looking on ebay in the meantime. Unless you are selling

Isn't that referred to as the 'wild pitch' sound ? it's just an analogue synth string single note two oscillators isn't it ?

The CDs are in an Akai specific format, but they were readable in Live 8 using the CD import feature....which was removed in Live 9.

I don't mind providing you with the samples....once you know exactly which ones you need.

BTW I also have a printed listing of all the Akai library discs for the S1000, S1100, MPC60, S3000, S950 and S01 from a company called A. L. Digital who used to distribute the samples in 1994.

that very well may be. makes sense to me. i don't have an analog but wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. probably with a bit of pitch and filter modulation via lfo you can get there easily with an analog i didn't try it but i know that string rocks

sounds fantastic. i've got a 60 here with me as well didn't know there was a library for it but on a second thought i can imagine there would be one i have disk 1-4 in original for mpc 3000 tho

anyway regarding the string samples for the s1000 i have no way of previewing them or listen. don't even know if that string sound ever was in the factory library disks for the s1000 without listening.

Best option I reckon is to drop a line to the guy who made those YouTube videos and see if he can tell you the name/number of the disc or sound.

I have the extracted sounds from the CD-ROMs in my Live 8 library. As I said, Live 8 could rip them direct from the discs.

If you do a bit of Googling you can find his name, other places he hangs out, and also an email address...

Just had a flick through the Akai S-1000 factory CD, reckon it sounds a lot like SL1002 > SYNT STRINGS.

they may be in here

you can listen to sl1002 sounds from the akai library posted here by
its the second video. sounds like some of those strings if played in a higher octave may very well be the exact sound i'm looking for

on a second listen from sl1002 it seems to me bigstrings1 and bigstrings2 are closer to that sound even if he plays higher notes for very briefly

Haha, could be, I'll check it out. The high notes are distinctive, but these patches aren't exactly multi-sampled; I'm finding that (beautifully) searing string sound on a lot of them. It's like the answer to the question is... E5.
