vst or AU on G5 Mac?

Post by dehmlow » Tue Aug 09, 2005 5:24 am

I've tried to find something beyond opinion on whether it is best to use a vst or AU version of a virtual instrument when they usually come with both versions? is either more stable on a G5 or is there a performance difference (on Live 5 in particular)...I haven't been able to do any conclusive tests (as I don't know how, ha!) any resources or articles? thanks a lot...

I use G5 Dual 2.0, Stylus RMX, Kontakt 2, Absynth, and a few others

using Live?

AU gives you better integration with the browser.

I compared VST and AU Effects (not Instr) in live4 some time ago. i noticed that when AU Effects were present but turned off, they still consumed a little cpu, like 1%. this became annoying when having 10 fx off to save cpu still used 10% cpu. VST effects on the other hand consumed nothing when off. I didnt check instruments.

this whole issue may be obsolete with live5 and freeze though.
