Has Ableton a subfolder limit for vsts?

Post by dozeren » Sun Dec 22, 2013 4:46 am

Yo peeps.
I have a problem. I have installed NI's Supercharger into a subfolder I have called Effects in my 64bit vst folder (called VST64bit), but I cant find it in Ableton afterwords. I have other effects that I see, but not this one. The odd thing is though, that I can both find and use it in Studio One. Any idea what I have done wrong?
I use Ablton 64bit, and hav rescanned the folder. Supercharger is also activated. Oh, and I am on windows 8.1.

There is no limitation for VSTs in Live, maybe the installation was failed. Try to scan your Plugins folder in Live in the preferences under file-folder.

I have allready rescanned. And I cant see how the installation can be wrong seeing as it works fine in Studio One.

But ta, then I know there is now subfolder limit at least :)

I know subfolders can cause issues. I had a problem with some that were made in synthedit and after a couple levels deep of folders ableton could no longer scan those, but it was hit or miss, though synthedit seemed to always be a problem

I dont remember if Ive seen the same issue with non-synthedit ones, it might also just depend on the vst and it may have some broken expectations about how deep it is

It's actually really embarassing that an old dog as Ableton cant manage to do subfolders proporly. This is one thing I like with Studio One (my main daw). It sorts by it self. Even every effect is put in an own fx folder in the drowser even if its in the main vst folder in the system.

In Live's preferences, try changing the custom folder path to something else, and then change it back. Sometimes that fixes the issue of undiscovered plugins.

Ta, that did the trick.

Ableton, you really should fix issues like this. I mean, this is just plain stupid. And embarrassing form an old dog like this program.
