Sample magic christmas present.

Post by djdiskmachine » Mon Dec 30, 2013 12:48 pm

Hello!
I got myself Live Intro after running the demo for a while, feels nice to commit to an "industry standard"-platform. Shame I'm a poor student and can only afford the cheapest version at the time tho. ;)

I was pleased to see the above mentioned giveaway packs as a bonus, it truly is a beautifully sounding collection!
My only dissatisfaction is that many sounds in the pack are quite squashed and it's a shame that the sound designers deliver it like this.
Anyone with me?
What's your favourite weapon of choice in counteracting overly-compressed sounds?

Cheers

SPL Transient designer, SPL vitalizer, SPL dual tube (just to add some subtle upper harmonics), fabfilter Pro-G, fabfilter Pro-MB (Expand mode).

Sidechaining a gate (the one in live) cn be useful to re-envelope the sounds from an external - anotehr loop, or even a basic synth set to some sound that is only used to trigger the gate.
Parallel compression to enhance the attack as an alternative to a gate/expander. Another variation is compressor to kill the attacks, the phase invert with a utility it and mix it back in, this causes everything except the attacks to be pulled down. You can make racks with EQs to serve as cross overs or band selectors quite easily - this can let you do whatever dynamics processing you need in specific frequency bands as well if the Live multiband cant do what you want.
EQ in mid side mode can sometimes help too - boost upper frequencies a bit to pull out attacks and in M/S mode to add a bit of space.
Nothing to see here - move along!
