push + follow actions

Post by bennniii » Mon Dec 30, 2013 3:02 pm

i'm brandnew to this community and glad to be part as i have just purchased my very own push controller :)

already very in love with it, questions come popping up by the minute. i think i have a rough overview about the thing by now, but one very basic feature i haven't discovered:
setting follow actions for clips.

anybody a clue? or a workaround? maybe there's another way to achieve what i'm trying to do:

i simply have 2 clips on the same instrument with an alternating bassline (let's say "C" and "D"). i want these clips to play back and forth. i'd also be content with the capability of simply merging them — having the 2 basslines on one clip in the end.

any ideas? i'd be gracious!

You can't set follow actions in any other way than clicking on them with a mouse (you may be able to do some form of amuse emulation something...?)

Alternatively if you have Max4Live our follow device offers the ability to emulate follow actions and even perform them on scenes...

Click below and have a look at the videos on the Modular Series page...

Takes you to the Modular Series page, the device the details you want for is called Follow, theres an LE version for free or it's part of the Modular Series...

Live is very powerful, but many of its more advanced functions are not accessible through the API (and therefor Push). Almost all clip functionality like follow actions and the groove pool are out of reach.

But I could imagine a workflow simulating what you want to achieve using clyphX. (A free super power user utility script supplied by the almighty Stray over at Nanokontrol).

You would there program a xTrigger list to trigger successive clips on your track. To trigger the xTrigger you would assign some midi button in Pushs user mode, or better on another Midi controller like the Launchpad. (That's better because it leaves Pushs user mode free to be used with the awesome PXT script, also from Nanokontrol. This one costs 20 bucks though.)

Programming here sounds more difficult than it actually is. It's more like very easy scripting!
