Live belongs to Ableton, therefore it's their property. It doesn't have to be physical to be property.

So, let's look at your definition of stealing again. You say it's "the act of taking someone's property without their permission".

OK so if you take Ableton's property (Live) without their permission (a license) then you're stealing it.

It's really not that hard for sentient life forms to comprehend.
Ah, but taking someone's property requires that property in fact be taken, where as crackers don't take, they just copy. Ergo not theft. Because definition.

Please, you're making this too easy for me. :x

Ah right, I see. How silly of me.

So if you just copied the works of JK Rowling instead of taking a book from a store, that'd be just fine and JK Rowling would not sue your ass.

Good luck with that then.

Given that JK donated £1m to the British Labour Party, we must assume that her ability to write derivative fiction is in no way correlated to her ability to understand ethics or logic.

As for making it easy for you, I'll admit that you are proficient in the art of answering off-topic, which is certainly not a difficult skill to master. Because cheesecake.

By the way, I believe you'll find that like many posters here you're confusing theft with illegality.

Now I know you're on a wind-up.

By the way, you're not allowed to mention the labour party in here. That's political discussion. I will be contacting the mods and demanding your immediate removal.

Absolutely not. Many examples of theft are legal (e.g. taxes), and many illegal activities do not involve theft (e.g. snorting coke up your ghetto booty).

There's a big difference between being able to sue, and actual theft. There's a reason 'piracy' is called copyright infringement and is a civil lawsuit vs. theft of property which is a criminal proceeding

The example generally used is gum in a store. A thief steals a pack of gum from the store, the store is now deprived of that property but they are also deprived of selling it to anyone else. In copyright infringement the store is not deprived of selling the 'stolen' goods, the 'thief' has only just gotten a free copy but not deprived anyone else of their purchased goods or the right of the seller to sell the goods. Its also why in general no one gets sued for just obtaining a copy of something illegally because they werent the ones distributing, a.k.a. performing the copyright infringement by handing out property that wasnt theirs

Is this still going on? If you use a cracked version YOU ARE A THIEF. If you support using cracks, YOU ARE A THIEF imnsho.

Live has a completely wonderful demo. NO EXCUSE for crackheads!

it feels good to support other people's efforts,
go ahead, support them or don't,
some people feel annoyed at those who
to continue to use software without supporting
others,
in my opinion its a question of copyright and
a civil matter, but more than that - ethical.

everyone at some point or other breaks copyright,
listened to a cd that is a copy,
used to use tapes of music,
watch's a film that is a copy
maybe not at home but at friends maybe,
rips cd's on to their computer,
watch youtube fodder etc.

it is impossible to avoid breaking copyright
in your life.
support the developer if you want development
of the software you love to continue and feel good
about it,
when you download the cracked version,
of say a 30 gig library, half of the time
the files are incomplete, you spend ages
trying to get it to work-no support,
spend ages looking for it in the first place.
download half the links only to find some files
missing, haha,
Thats not even taking in to account
the chance of virus, bad crack's crashing
left right and center causing you
to lose your work.

I email ableton if i have a major problem,
what is so easy about cracks?,you should
feel lucky that you are in a position not
to have to go through all that, you have
the money..!.

If you have the money to buy it,
buy it, feel good you can afford it,
me i don't care if someone else is
not supporting as long as most people
are, why waste energy, just make some
music, why so militant?

to say someone is a thief,
to point the finger,
remember this-
when you point a finger at
someone there are always 3
fingers pointing back at you.
