Transfering audio from vinyl to computer

Post by Postal » Tue Aug 09, 2005 9:32 pm

What is the quickest way of transfering music from vinyl to computer without picking up too much noise distortion. Currently im using some audio leads which cost next to nothing and the sound quality is terrible.

Are gold cables worth considering ?

Thoughts please

I use an M-Audio Firewire box and Wavelab. I use my record output from my mixer to the input on the Firewire box. Once in Wavelab you can filter out any noise. I make sure to clean my needles and records real good beforehand and I don't get much in the way of noise.

Gold cables are stupid. You just need a good needle, good stable turntable and a good pre-amp and wavelab or soundforge.

i just use my vestax dj deck, with a quality cart , with standard cables - my allen and heath xone 92 is the pre amp so its quality, and i record into adobe audition through a tascam us122 usb card. i always quartz lock the turntable and make sure its on a level surface, and always clean the record with an anti staic cloth and look out for any scuffs or scratches

SoundSoap I heard is cool for cleaning up your beats

I only rip brand new tracks right out of the sleeve, from CD-R or MP3

All the old crusty techno beats from like a long time ago are right where I left them - on the wall

if your beats don't sound like you want them to try a new needle or stylus and make sure you monitor what's going in / slash coming out

Push your mixer up to the max - zero out the eq, push the crossfader all the way over and record right up to clipping without clipping

Clean

It's all about the needle and the surface.

Get a good needle (accuracy, warmth or brightness to concider)...

Whatever you are recording, it all comes down to the contact with the groove. Make sure the records are clean. Not just dust-free, but CLEAN. Older records can get GRIMEY.
15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.
