Anyone use Apple's Magic Trackpad with Ableton?

Post by jbw » Sun Jan 12, 2014 10:11 pm

Anyone use Apple's Magic Trackpad with Ableton? This one:

http://www.apple.com/magictrackpad/

If so, how is it?

I've searched around and can't seem to find any good solid information, like if there are problems with it in Ableton for some reason, so any answers are appreciated.

I am pretty sure that is exactly the same as the trackpad on the Macbook Pro's, and if it is, it works well for me.

I use one. As LKB said, its a giant trackpad. I love it because I use a lot of the Mac gestures. If it was not for gestures, Im a huge fan of mice like the logitech trackman for Live.

Use it when working on a 52" screen... Find it's fantastic, doing stuff from the sofa across the room!

So because you can’t find any information that there is a problem with it you’re just assuming there is a problem with it but nobody is talking about it.

I used it for a couple years but I much prefer the Magic Mouse now. I feel like I have more control with it and the top of it has track pad capabilities. So it’s the best of both worlds. Only semi-issue is its smaller than most mice which you might find awkward or uncomfortable.

I actually have a Logitech Trackman and like it, but am a fan of gestures to control things like on an iPad.

Or it could be that no one is using it, which is why I asked.

But this is the Internet. If people aren’t using something because there is an issue with it then they’d sure as hell be quite vocal about it. :)

Totally. I've got nerve damage in my fingers (tips of end three fingers are always "asleep") and this has helped greatly. Love the magic pad.

Have apple magic-pad here as well. Much better than a mouse (on OSX at least). The pads and gestures etc are the main reason I prefer OSX to windows.
Nothing to see here - move along!

Does anyone ever have issues adjusting parameters with the trackpad while your project is looping? Sometimes the parameters jump to the maximum range all of a sudden when I move them. I know it's not bc of any conflicting or accidental automation I've done. For example... In the arrangment view i'll sometimes loop a part once I have the notes programmed, and then i'll do my sound design.... tweaking while the track loops. Say I'm adjusting insert 1 in Massive and I have the bitcrusher assigned to it....sometimes the down sample knob will completely jump all the way to the max value as I tryin barely increase its value.
This only happens while the track is looping. If the track isnt playing I've never had it do this.
