Mapping Encoders in Instrument Chains for a live set.

Post by dest4b » Tue Jan 14, 2014 5:27 pm

Hi,

its maybe a dump question ..
I don't think it is useful to perform a live set with 62 channels in ableton .. ( for each part 6 channels ) So i thought it will be a good thing to use chains in racks.

So here is my question: ;)

Is there a way to control the Instrument parameters if i have Rack with multiple instrument chains ( for example Drum-sets or Synths ) in a Instrument Rack with clips within an automated chain selector. That the Parameters of just this actual playing instrument is on the 8 auto mapped push encoders ?
I can select it by pressing the right arrow on push and go inside the rack and selecting the chain. But how i can see what chain is actually playing ? ( on Push )
Is it possible to change that automatic ?

Or is the only solution for me to use only the 8 macros of the instrument rack to control the parameters of the instruments in the chain ?
Or is it totally risky to use real time synthesis on a gig and i should use only sampled clips. ?

Thanx

I think using real time synthesis live is a worthy endeavor. I plan to do the same thing.
But I think controlling 8 synthesis parameters live is about as much complexity one should try to handle. (don't forget you still have sends and FX).
In order for the sound I synthesize to be not too simple, I settled on the following two step approach.
First I synthezise my sound with all the controlls I want in the calm of my home. Then I load this sound into Sampler and assign 8 parameters to the InstrumentRacks Macros that Sampler is contained in.
The parameters I assigned include: Osc Vol, Osc Wave, Osc Freq, Filter Freq, Filter Q, Filter Morph (Filter set to SVF!), LFO Rate and Filter > LFO.
You can now change the original sound either subtly or totaly destroy it, but you have still a lot of control over the process and don't get lost in 128 parameters and menue diving!
