Live 9.1 GUI Freezes and Hangs

Post by Michael Hatsis » Sun Dec 15, 2013 2:32 pm

Having some serious GUI Freezes and beachballing w Live 9.1. Curious if anyone else is experiencing them.

What happens:

When I get a Live set to a certain size...
- ~ 30 or so tracks
- ~2.5-3 Gigs of RAM shown in activity monitor
- No MFL stuff in set

With playback running, Every time i try to click on something in Live ( clip, scene, device ) the GUI locks up and the beachball makes an appearance and starts spinning for a few seconds in which I am not able to do aything in Live...quite a workflow killer.
I open the set in 9.05 and this doesn't happen. Its happened on the only 2 tracks I have made using Live 9.1 and with both .als files doesn't happen in 9.05 at all.

also, audio playback is fine during these GUI freezes.

Anyone experiencing this? Any quick fixes :D if not Ill just hit up support. Would be great if it was something simple though.

OSX 10.8.4 ,
Live 9.1 64 bit
Live 9.05 64 bit
16gigs o RAM
Macbook pro, quad, no retina

When u say it has improved have u contacted ableton about it and they are aware? or u just see an improvement?

I have been experiencing similar issues with my system:

OSX 10.8.5 8GB RAM
Live 9.1 Suite
Apogee Ensemble
Arturia AUs
Sound Hack
Max/MSP
Logic X

I have contacted Ableton but no resolution yet.

What I experience is a general slow responsivness to anything I select within Live: swapping plugins, swapping sounds, changing the cue points, skipping ahead in the arrangement view, adjusting mixer functions, anything really that i adjust while the audio is playing is slow to respond, no matter how many tracks i have going. The CPU is never being used above 15% and i have only one or two samples in my session. The beach ball is spinning, the watch comes up, the whole thing is very frustrating.
I am assuming that it is a matter of 9.1 not working flawlessly with anything but mavericks as is stated when you download 9.1
Can anyone tell me how to go back to the previous version, 9.0.5 was it?

Im Having the same problems on a Win7 PC with 16Gb RAM running the 64-bit version. it happened every now and then for a little while, but now it's gotten to fullblown crash everytime. Reinstalling doesn't help and I can't find older versions of 9 on Ableton.com

The frustration of not being able to do anything at all in ableton drove me to formatting and reinstalling windows and everything. Haven't had any crashes since!
Now I can't drop mp3-files into ableton though, but that's off-topic for this thread.

i've been getting this really bad too! i recently formatted my system and upgraded to OSX 10.8.5 so some functionality differences were to be expected but after a quick test this morning it's definitely a problem.

for me it gets worse as the set grows. towards the end of a track i'm waiting 5 seconds every time i select a different track. it's a crazy workflow frustration that i've been just dealing with but it really sucks.

the test this morning was to bring in a small number of tracks into my next project. 3 drum tracks, 2 bass tracks, a couple other synths and audio tracks. switching between tracks gives GUI pauses varying depending on the complexity of the sound in the track. but for this relatively small project (for me) switching take about a full second at worst. what could possibly require a full 1000 ms of processing with so little going on? if it would stay at 1 second that would be ok but it climbs to a very frustrating number considering how common it is to switch between tracks while composing.

2010 macbook pro
8 GB ram
OSX 10.8.5
Live 9.1 64-bit

looking forward to ableton ignoring this problem. :(
