I work with tape on a weekly if not daily basis working in a preservation studio. That nostalgia would have to produce some serious endorphins to get me to willingly use tape for my own projects. 8O

As I originally stated, my trusty old DAW (built in 2006/7, Asus P5K-E board, Intel E8600 cpu) has hardware (Yamaha sw1000 soundcard plus plugstation with PLG cards !) which I still use & can't run on anything later than Win XP.

Ditto Cubase SX2.

My Powercore DSP system won't run on Win 8.

I may create a new partition on this DAW to run Win 7 - and may upgrade from 4GB of DDR2 to 8GB.

But this takes careful planning & time.

It does seem that there has been an 11th hour reprieve for MSE security updates for XP, which adds a little safety net until 2015 ... http://blogs.technet.com/b/mmpc/archive ... ws-xp.aspx

I do really like Win 7 (it's running on my 2nd DAW - laptop, and a netbook), but the thought of effectively re-building my DAW (all those installations ...) does not exactly fill me with joy.

Don't really fancy Win 8 as not interested in touch screens, and not even sure my mboard will run it (Asus site does not list Win 8 as supported OS for this board). Want avoid a complete hardware rebuild.

If God did exist (and he doesn't), he would answer to the name of Maurizio.

I still love the SW100XG. Mine is in a drawer because I couldn't run it with an AMD rig or my P4 rig.
