Question about DJing with Ableton

Post by Vorb » Thu Jan 23, 2014 5:57 am

Okay, I'm going to be blunt here... Normally when I DJ, I use Traktor Pro with my Traktor Kontrol S2. However, here in about a month, I'm playing a 4 hour set at a club, and there's no way I can go that long... I know that it's best to DJ sober, but I'm going to be pretty drunk most likely along with other things.

So frankly, I need a way to premake a set. Yeah, I know it's "BAD" Whatever, I'm not asking for opinions on the matter, LOL. I'm asking for the best possible way to pull this off.
How do I make a premade set in Ableton (with transitions, etc) already made, but with the ability to control volume and stop tracks, etc., and perhaps add my own effects in. This way I'll be able to focus more on stage presence but it will give me something to do such as add effects.
So how do I pull this off in Ableton? Thanks so much!

tldr: how do I make a premade set in Ableton while still having the ability to control volume and effects on my Ableton Push pad or preferably with my Traktor Kontrol S2 DJ controller?

You can send the tracks to me, wire $5000 to my account and I can put the set together for you... solved!

Why not just pre-do a set and play it in Traktor, then you can use the S2 to mess with it as you please?

It's lame as hell, but easier than trying to do the same thing in Live. And really man, if you can't DJ all fucked up, you can't DJ. Dear god, the history of DJing is nothing but stories how fucked up famous DJs were when they played.

How do I do this then in Ableton? Plug MP3's into arrangement? How to add effects?

Seriously. Especially when Traktor will auto-sync your mixes for you so you don't even have to pay attention to beat matching (or even phrasing if you really don't give a shit).

Live does that too!

Vorb, there's plenty of info on the web about making a DJ mix with Live. Check out the YouTube videos by djbolivia.

Vorb.

Even if you pulled this off, you would be sooooo wasted you may (potentially) not notice that your sound card is not plugged in. Then there's the issue with the fact you (potentially) forgot your laptop charger (suprise suprise!) and then there's the whole dilemma of no PA system.

I suggest Traktor mate, its made for cabbages. :)

Enjoy your night out!

FFS use traktor - switch on auto sync - get rid of all the other buttons and stick some plasticine on each play button, drinks mat on one and a mirror and credit card on the other and yr sorted. Just remember to alternate between drink and powdering yr nose every couple of mins - if you can still stand you can DJ :)

If your that worried, well stick a pedal board on the floor with similar attachments for drink and erm, 'substances'.
Nothing to see here - move along!
