Livid Guitar wing... thoughts?
I always really liked the Moldover stuff and wanted to build out a midi controller in my guitar but time and money have put a stop to that. This thing could be pretty sweet.

if you can integrate the controls directly to yr playing style then, ok. I checked out the various vids on youtube and I didn't see any motion sensor stuff being displayed..
Re: Livid Guitar wing... thoughts?
I think it's a really interesting idea, but it looks kind of big for me. I'm definitely keeping my eye on it though, especially since it's wireless.

That's an excellent idea! A little reinvigorating too. Haven't had much enthusiasm for playing strings for awhile.
I think there'd have to be a more specific purposes for it to serve where it's more advantageous to use over a pedal, though, certain things when you don't need both hands to play and also don't need to be at the pedal for something though. The thought of constantly taking attention away from strumming and plucking sounds like it could get annoying and be impractible after awhile possibly. Or, just something to get used to. Hard to say without actually using it for awhile. either way though, I've never thought of it but am surprised it's taken this long for it to happen
Genius in it's simplicity, really. Or maybe most people were like "the thought of taking my hand away all the time sounds annoying" always came up.

Ok now we pair it up with this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QrPFVDPBLQ
infinite sustain with hands on control of fx, all while rocking out? This is my jam right here.
As far as the guitar wing, I think the wireless part is awesome. DJ's can hook it up to their rigs and showboat, I can attach it to my mic stand at home for transport control etc etc.
I'm glad i live in the future, and I love the NAMM time of year.

Re: Livid Guitar wing... thoughts?
I think where the demo falls short is that the examples show stuff that guitarists have already been able to do traditionally with the guitar itself and pedals.
I would show that you can map controls to parts of the host like transport controls, and being bias for Live, clip recording,, macro controls and other Api juicy-ness for example.
Still, once Jonny Greenwood is seen with one on his guitar, they'll sell like hotcakes
(No offense to Vernon
)

Re: Livid Guitar wing... thoughts?
watch the one where it controls guitar rig, that's where he covers the stuff you can't do with pedals. They did mention being able to control footpedals in the vernon video i think... that would be monster for gigging guys. I don't know if my laptop is coming onstage to a guitar gig...

Why not?I don't know if my laptop is coming onstage to a guitar gig...
Anyway it isn't hard to imagine the kinds of things you can use it for. I'm just saying from a demo sales perspective, it's a narrow window, one that doesn't stray too far from what guitarists have already been able to do without hands, which imo doesn't do itself justice, because it looks like controlling fx on the wing is less practical than using a pedal. That's why showing non-traditional examples of useful things like host integration would spark some thoughts like "ah, that would be useful and something I'd be more inclined to use with the Wing than a pedal". The advantage of the Wing is that you don't need to be 'tethered' to your pedals. But I know I'd prefer to use my feet on controls I'm constantly tweaking than constantly taking my hand away from it's strumming position. Other than occasional pickup switching and volume fades the whammy bar was enough (though I've never been much into tapping).
I mean either way, it's still just midi control, which we've already been able to do with pedals, so why not try to sell a non-traditional product with non-traditional but useful demonstrations. Something that would make the buyer think of something they might not have thought of before to improve their workflow, not something they've already been doing with pedals. For guitar players, controlling fx with your feet will always have an advantage, but no so much when you want to start/stop record a clip, or switch banks.

I'm always skeptical about the stability of a wireless connection. Especially dependent on the power source.
I was hoping they'd demonstrate actual performance???
It'd almost have been better to make an ipod/iphone dock+buttons...almost. But yeah the iphone has shortcomings too, like touching a screen with fingers that are already busy with guitar strings.

I wonder if this gets McMillens panties in a bunch at all, it really goes in line with Quneo and Qunexus, at least visually.
Re: Livid Guitar wing... thoughts?
I've tried to incorporate my lappy into my strat/marshall setup and never found anything I liked. In addition my stage is usually full of semi drunk dancing people. controlling an eventide pedal for some wild stuff would be a lot of fun and feel less dangerous to me. If I was in a club in a DJ booth of course I'd be cool with that.
At home in the studio it'd probably do the stuff you're talking about with the mapping. I'd definitely hope to see more videos highlighting some cool stuff. I don't think the foot is superior as a control to the hand though. Nothing beats the wah pedal model, but even though i have a ton of buttons on my FCB I don't use them for anything but on/off. I would use the buttons to select different effects to control with the expression pedal, switching it between volume/wah/bitcrush etc.
There's a vid where DVS maps to live and does clip launch/looping as well.
Battery life, connectivity, and imagination will be the only possible limitations in my opinion.

So I've had the Guitarwing now for a few weeks, it's pretty sweet.
Here's a quick clip of me doing a hybrid DJ + Electric bass thing:

I have the X fader assigned to the accelerometer... fun stuff.
