Reaktor and Live 5
Reaktor and Live 5
I am looking into buying Reaktor. I'll be using it with Live 5, so I was wondering if anyone has encountered any serious issues with this setup.
My reasoning is to symplify my setup as far as the amount of programs I use in creating music. Currently I'm using Reason 3.0, Live 5, and a few minor VSTs (mainly Video Game soundchip emulators). I've gotten rid of an number of softsynths.
As illogical as it sounds, adding Reaktor to this setup would be ideal. Mastering three programs is the goal, so I might as well hit up the big boys. However, I would rather not plop down the cash and run into some serious drawbacks between Live and Reaktor.
Any opinions on this matter?

I use live 4 with reaktor 5- and it its pretty stable.
Its a BEAST though.... i still cant get my head round even the bsaics (sure i can select patches and tweak them though , thats fairly easy) - but the core ensemble thing is mental... Its good as a standalone and also as plugin - both to generate sound and to effect sound... but my CPU hits 80 -85 when its on, so only one channel at a time and bounce thwe audio in for me...
i cant stress how frickin difficult it is -

1) Do you mind my asking what your setup is, as I have been curious about this app?jeskola wrote:I use live 4 with reaktor 5- and it its pretty stable.

2) Where would you put it's difficulty level, say perhaps Live at a (happy) 0, and max/msp at a 10?

Get REAKTOR 5!
Skrewell + the L3 sequence module make it worth the price alone, but there are worlds among worlds more stuff to get into.
Reaktor eats CPUs for breakfast, and, admittedly, a dual G5 CPU only accounts for the bacon on the side of the breakfast plate. But it's worth it. Work within your limitations.
We had a R5 training recently and the NI rep had like 12 instances running on his PC laptop. That was hard to see because I can only run like 2 on my dual G5.
But whatever. A few days after the training I bought a G4 laptop.
PC? Mac? Whatever. Just get it

Yup.Is the Mac verison just a crappy ported version of the PC version?
But, at least they bothered to port it. And it's still worth having. Totally worth having. Once you've used sound that rich it's hard to go back.
Yeah- the effects are awesome. I really like the Electric Banan amp simulator. Travelizer. Grainstates.
At home I still have Reaktor 4, but I play with 5 at work. Must buy soon.
