I thought updates were supposed to be small files.

My account only shows 9.1.1 as a full version. :?:

So I have to download the whole thing again?

Well in todays terms those files are small actually, depending on your internet connection "given you don't have one from the last century" this should only take a few minutes at most.

If you have version 9.1 as far as I know you should be able to do this via autoupdate, my last update was a friggin' joke it went so fast via auto update, I had barely downloaded it and turned Live back on and it was already updated. But that is if you have auto update enabled and a fast pc and a fast internet connection.

Cheers ;)

You're right, the file is actually pretty small. I forgot the packs are separate. :?

yeah, I just let mine auto update. Somewhat risky, maybe I'll stop that practice...

don't forget the fact that you can run the newer version without overwriting the older version. this is especially important when there are major hiccups. Live 8 was a bit of a nightmare from version to version for some users so having a full install of a previous version was a saving grace.

agree with that, but ok, if you make daily backups I guess, I run Time Machine, but you're right, it's risky I give you that, I should probably also do them manually.

Thanks :D

^ i just save the installer for the version that I know works... and one or two before it.

that... and I don't uninstall older versions right away. at any given time I have up to 4 versions of Live installed. the catch is the launcher... the Live executable (shortcut) will point to the version that you had installed when you made the shortcut on a Mac, so you have to delete that file and replace it with the latest. Depending on how you launch it, you can do the same with Windows.

So, theoretically... someone could install an update and then actually be launching an older/previous version.

always check the splash screen at launch to be double damn sure which version you're running vs. which you have installed.

in the grand scheme of things... I appreciate the fact that Live installs side by side... and allows you to use previous versions. it's a parachute that most software updates do not offer. Some even make it beastly difficult to revert to an older revision. not so with Live... thankfully.

i've even had Live 8 and 9 running at the same time... that's pretty damn cool when digging through older material. really cool. 8)

Yeah I get where you coming from, totally dig this too, and would hate to see this change, I think people can only benefit from it like you do and Ableton probably went this direction for a reason, so.

Anyway I at most run 2 versions of live, not needing any older version for now at least, I only have stable and beta "if there is a new one available" installed. So at the moment I have only 9.1.1 installed, and I keep everything else updated as well on my machine. I roll like this for years now, I love to update and adapt everything so I don't need to roll back, of course there comes the point which I am not at right now. And I probably spend more time than I want updating, but I think I have learned to adapt quickly by now.
