I mean if you can play Mac games on a Mini with an Xbox or PS controller then why bother with the AppleTV route? The games will always be more powerful on the Mac.

I guess one issue is that while the number of high profile games being made for Mac has increased it hasn't been to the level that games on the iOS App Store have exploded.

This also reminds me of the signs of OS X and iOS beginning to converge that have been happening since Lion.

The simple reason and the only deciding factor for a lot of people is price. An Apple TV is $100 (at least for now) and the base model Mini is $600. That's even more of a substantial difference than between idevices and competitor products that people love to whine about. People lost their shit and acted like they won the lottery when Google released their Apple TV competitor Chromecast for $30. Never mind it's limitations and weaknesses compared to the Apple TV. $30!!! :x

From Macrumors
the company is also considering combining the Apple TV and AirPort Express products, testing a combined Apple TV and 802.11ac wireless router in order to ensure higher-quality streaming.

Interesting as I use both and I guess it would be nice to have both in one box but I don't really have Apple TV internet connectivity problems and if it fries you are out a wifi router and Apple TV. :x

:? If it's the router and the TV then they're basically saying you have to have it plugged into your ISP's modem... Um... Fail.

Unless this is more of Apple sucking AT&T's cock and plucking its wifi out of the U-Verse.

Either way :x

Good point! Wouldn’t be an issue when the router was in my room with the TV, but recently I moved it out to the living room because it had the habit of having to be reset only when I was gone for the night or weekend and my roommate was SOL with my door being locked. :x

I've long wanted a single Apple TV Airport Extreme combo, so I'm all for it. :)

If Apple does go that route then what they should also do is sell a cheap dongle (their standard $29.99) that you would plug in to all TVs in your network that can access the Apple TV interface and multiple TVs at the same time.

And when the fuck are they going to make it so you don’t have to have iTunes open on your computer to access the library? FFS. :x

As far as my library I only really use the Apple TV for TV shows and movies and Match doesn’t cover those if you didn’t buy them from Apple…which I didn’t.

You should start. All I use is iTunes and Netflix for all of my media. They occasionally have $9.99 deals for movies and go through a pick a few up whenever it happens. Current TV shows that I like are available there and with the handful of shows that I watch I still only spend about half the money I would in a year if I had cable.

It (just) works for me.

I’ll just say between Netflix and a certain offshore invite only website I don’t need to buy movies or TV shows ever.

I like watching movies in the studio, my MBP display is the best one in the house. My TV sucks :(

Reading more about the Apple TV router combo it’s speculated that more important than improving the Apple TV’s connection to the Internet, it would improve AirPlay which I agree can be unreliable. Also rumored they are looking into making it a cable interface so you don’t have to use your cable provider’s box. This all makes a lot more sense than making a whole damn TV. :x

In related news, but not related to Apple, I’m a projector guy and both Sony and LG are releasing projectors that beam up from below the wall instead of from across the room. Cool shit but too expensive at this point. Maybe in about a decade this will replace Tarekith's sad TV. :x

One of the things I like about some of the iPad music apps is the ability to paint in automation with your finger as opposed to a line with a bunch of box points you have to add or remove. Even a small curve can have a thousand box points you have to fuck with, even if that just means selecting them all and converting them to a single curve. High resolution painting is better for a lot of things. :x
