.dance mat to trigger live clips

hi,

i'm searching for a dance mat similar like this:

the idea is to dance on this mat and firing clips in live. i think it's a funny way to create more human-dance beats.

does anyone use a controller like this? i try out also a normal gampad. its funny too, triggering samples with different buttons or make some envelopes with the joysticks.

any good ideas for human controllers like this dancemat with usb?

In a store near here. The good thing is the foam insert. Keeps it flat, but still portable...

Right, just got me one of these for some comical onstage jollities.

How ever I'm a bit confused.

It plugs into USB (I'm on PC) and pushing a pad seems exactly equivalent to pressing a key on the computer keyboard. You can even type withit if you don't mind your texts being very limited letter-wise

The problem is that there are 11 pads and 6 of them are taken up by arrow keys, esc and enter. These can't fire clips as you can't map them in live.

Is there any way to map these keys to other ones so that they can be used? Someone mentioned that Bome can do key-to-key translation. However, upon looking I think it can only to Midi to keystroke translation.

Translating keystrokes to MIDI could also be a solution.

I've tried a program called Livesticks which supposedly translates gamecontroller signals to MIDI. Unfortunately it doesn't recognise the dancemat as a controller. Presumably as it simply emulates the computer keyboard.

Can anyone help?

I've been doing something like this to trigger effects and samples. I just use my Playstation DDR pad (w/ a usb adapter) and some little a joy2key program. Set up banks in the joy2key and you can switch letter groups quickly. I make a bunch of silent clips with effects envelopes, then route other tracks into it and spaz out. It's also a good way to let a small audience interact with the music. It's not very useful, but fun at least.
